Book of Kells

Continuing my series of posts about paintings and art in general; in this illustration from the Book of Kells we see the four evangelists depicted as a man, eagle, ox and lion.

Do you know who is which? Click HERE and read Brian Gill's article "Bringing a Message of Hope and Love".

  1. I should have known Mark as the winged lion since he's the patron saint of Venice and I remember seeing statues of winged lions there. I had not known the other three.

    1. I doubt I could have remembered who was which, Manny. I don't even know why they were represented thus. I remember as a child, in an old church we went to, the lectern was an eagle with spread out wings on which the Bible was left open.

      God bless.
