Elenora and Frederic

These are Elenora and Frederic Hill when they were married many years ago. I don't have a more recent photo, so this one will do. It's a sad story indeed about these two nice people.

Their love remained strong all the years they were together. They were devoted to each other. They were an example to all of us, especially when things go wrong in our lives. Elenora and Frederic Hill had a difficult life together. She was often ill and in and out of hospital, he lost his job because he looked after his beloved wife and his employer could no longer tolerate his many absences.

They struggled through the years. They loved dancing and often went to the local dance hall on Saturday evenings, when they could afford it. They were poor but dancing was their only joy, and it was a joy to see them dance together; although as Elenora got more poorly they did not dance as often.

One day, some friends went to visit them but no one answered the door. Fortunately one of them had a key in case of emergency, so they let themselves in.

Sadly, they found Elenera and Frederic Hill sitting on the sofa motionless ... they could not wake them up. They checked for a pulse ... there was none. They shook them ... no response.

Someone phoned for an ambulance. Someone else phoned for the police. Someone else noticed the record player was on. The needle had reached the end of the song but the record kept going round and round. Maybe they were listening to their favourite dance music before ... ... ...

So he picked up the handle and placed the needle at the beginning of the record again. The sound of their favourite band music blared loudly.

How sad ... everyone stood there their eyes welling with tears.

But then, Elenora flickered her eyelids ... so did Frederic Hill. They opened their eyes slowly and saw their friends gathered there around them.

They were all so happy as they sang joyfully, "The Hills are alive with the sound of music!"

  1. I thought you were setting us up for "love dies together." I groaned.

    1. I'll tell you another story, Mevely, about Elenora and Frederic Hill. It's a true story. They live next door to Margaret and James Ball. One day a car crashed against a tree in the garden adjoining both properties. Fortunately for the driver he was pulled out of the car by the Hills.

      God bless.

  5. I need to read slower, if you missed their last name as I did, the punch line makes no sense. On second reading I had to laugh.

  7. One good story deserves another.

Sam Clam and Tom Turtle were best friends, but we all know that clams live fast lives in more ways than one, so Sam preceeded Tom to the Pearly Gates.

When Tom finally got there, his first question to St. Peter was, "Where's my friend Sam Clam?"

To his great sadness, as St. Peter handed Tom his wings and harp and halo, he said, "I'm so sorry to have to tell you this, Tom, but Sam didn't make it up here."

Tom looked so dejected that St. Peter said, "Look, there's an elevator that can take you down there to visit. It leaves every hour on the hour between six in the morning and six at night, but you can't be late for that last elevator or you will get stuck down there overnight, and you don't want that to happen!"

So the next morning, bright and early, Tom Turtle was at the elevator for 6am, and the elevator operator reminded him, "Be back on time for the last elevator, things don't go well for those who don't belong down here if they try to spend the night!"

Tom went walking along, asking everyone if they'd seen his friend Sam Clam. Everyone he asked tittered and pointed in the same direction, so he kept walking that way, and eventually he saw a huge building that read, "Sam Clam's Disco".

Excitedly, Tom went in and asked about Sam, and Sam came out yelling, "Is that you, Tom!" and they had a fabulous reunion. They talked, and Sam served him lunch, and Sam got caught up on all the news from the beach since he'd been gone.

Suddenly, they both looked up and realized the day was far spent and it was close to 6pm.

Sam said, "Tom, I love you but you can't stay down here at night, even I won't be able to fully protect you, you gotta get out of here!"

So Tom flew as fast as a slow turtle's wings could carry him, and saw the elevator operator holding the door for him and yelling for him to hurry. Tom got in, the doors crashed shut, and Tom leaned on the wall to catch his breath.

Upon exiting the elevator, St. Peter noticed Tom looking a bit worn, his halo askew, and said, "Tom, I'm so glad you made it back tonight, looks like you had a close call. By the way, where's your harp?"

And Tom slapped his forehead and said, "I left my harp in Sam Clam's Disco!" (In case that makes no sense, sing about leaving your heart in San Francisco and you will figure it out.)

  8. My daughter's response as I finished reading the story...

"That was such a build up to a bad dad joke"

I can't say I disagree, though I may need to add it to my list of dad jokes.
