Don't leave it too late

 Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

I know that I’m a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I’m a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him
in the living years

Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I’m afraid that’s all we’ve got

You say you just don’t see it
He says its perfect sense
You just can’t get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you
hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the
past
We only sacrifice the future
It’s the bitterness that lasts

So don’t yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don’t give up, and
don’t give in
You may just be OK.

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you
hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

I wasn’t there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn’t get to tell him
All the things I had to say

I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I’m sure I heard his echo
In my baby’s new born tears
I just wish I could have told him
in the living years

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you
hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

  1. Now you have me crying with a truth. My plane could not land due to bad weather and it was diverted to an airport 200 miles away, I flew away as my dad died below me. So much I wanted to say.

Good one my friend, Love you and THANKS.

  4. Always tell them you love them. Even when you disagree, you can respectfully say, “I disagree with your point of view, but I love you.”

  7. Such a sad song about time we should have spent more wisely with our parents and grandparents while they were with us. I hope I can leave my children and grandchildren a legacy of love and faith. Blessings, Victor!

  9. From the moment I first heard this song ... and to this day, it rips my heart. Not unlike Jack's story, I didn't travel to see my father before he passed. That's something I'll regret the rest of my days.

    1. I understand Mevely; whilst we have our own personal regrets, we must also remember that our parents loved us and they understand the circumstances behind our regrets and how we feel now.

God bless you and yours always.

  10. It's so important to tell family that you love them, give them a hug ... and if they live far away why not phone say hello and let them know you are thinking of them and yes say I love you.
Time is shorter than we often think, make every moment count.

    All the best Jan
