Patron Saint of ...

I have been tagged by Karinann to join a Patronage Meme.

The idea is to imagine that I have died and gone to Heaven and somehow the wise people in the Vatican have decided to nominate me a Saint.

If that were to happen … which Patron Saint would I be?

Ha … the very idea! Me … a Saint!!!

The very thought of it is making Jesus laugh out loud right now and St Peter is rolling on the floor with tears of merriment in his eyes whilst St Thomas is telling everyone “I don’t believe it!”

You know … if I’m ever to be a Patron of anything, whether in Sainthood or in lowly life here on earth, I think it should be “Patron of Laughter”.

Because laughter is important in this life. It’s good for you you know!

Laughter releases dolphins within you which move around and tickle you from the inside.

If there was more laughter on earth … really loud and hearty laughter … the sort of laughter that makes you have tears of joy in your eyes and the need for a change of underwear … well, the world would be a better place for it.

And we’d have extra laundry too!

So there you have it. Patron of Laughter.

Because God created laughter you know. At least I hope He has … otherwise I’m in dead trouble.

On a serious note though … this Meme is good because it makes us think of who we are here on earth and how far short we fall when compared to the Saints in Heaven.

Try this little exercise. Pick a Saint. Any Saint … Peter, Paul, Therese of Avila, Charbel or whoever you wish.

Now compare how they lived here on earth to the way we do!

See what I mean?

That’s why I say I’m no Saint, and not likely to be either. But I try …

Now enjoy this video.

God bless.

  1. Well Victor, let's see- St Peter denied Our Lord not once but three times, St Paul had people imprisoned and killed for their belief in Christ, St Teresa of Avila may be the best of the bunch you mentioned, but read her autobiography and you will see she too struggled with attaining sainthood while walking this earth. Oh and have you heard about Augustine! Yikes! His life was a soap opera before his conversion. All sainthood requires is us making it to heaven (canonization not necessary) Making it to heaven requires that we get up again after we fall and living the Gospel as best we can. Jesus never said following Him to heaven would be easy, but He didn't say it was impossible either. So sorry Victor not buying your never going to be a saint theory. Thanks for joining in though.
In the meantime we can all pray each other to heaven in hopes of meeting there one day.
    God bless!

  2. Well Karinann,

I do try, I promise. And I fail often.

I certainly hope to meet you some day in Heaven. I'll be wearing a bow tie. In the meantime I'll be forever grateful for your prayers; and I'll pray for you.

    God bless.

  3. Thanks for the prayers Victor; I can certainly use them. I forgot to write in my first comment- I do love a patron saint of laughter. I agree more laughter in the world would definitely make things more bearable.

  4. Thanx again Karinann and Colleen,

Yes ... laughter is healing I know. When I asked the doctor whether the medicine would make me better, he laughed ... and said it was only a free sample he'd got from the vet for his dog and he was trying it out on patients to see if it worked.

Well, judging from the video, at least I can dance!

    God bless.

  7. Hi Victor,

I wonder if one of your favourite saints is St Phillip Neri? I heard he loved a good laugh. One of Thomas' bears has a huge grin on its face and I couldn't resist calling it Phillip. Thank you for the many laughs. I love dropping in for my weekly (or even daily) dose. God bless!
