Treasures

Amazing the things we gather and collect over the years. Take the music and video field for instance. How many DVDs and music CDs do we have at home? Have we listened to all of them more than once? How many times can we see the same DVD feature movie; or the Series of that famous TV show we like?

Time was when all these movies were on VHS tapes; and our music collection was either cassette tapes or old vinyl. Then the system changed; and we had to change too.

Now it’s DVDs and CDs soon to be replaced by Blu-Ray, MP3s and a variety of other formats no doubt.

And there’s also all those photos we took with our modern cameras. In the old days it was a film which had to be developed and printed on paper. It cost money – so we were careful how many photos we took. Now it’s digital and we can click away to our heart’s content and put all these photos on CDs and build a large collection which we see once and then forget about it.

I wonder, will there be time in Heaven to sit back and see all those DVD movies we never have time to watch? Or our favourite TV shows which ran for several Series? Or all those photos we took of all the holidays and events we went to? And listen to all our music collections we amassed over the years?

And will they have a machine in Heaven which runs all formats regardless whether your memories are saved on Betamax, VHS or the latest digital system?

And how about our lovely shoe collection? One pair for each occasion? Or our lovely handbags … dresses … hats … ties … sets of golf clubs … watches … and numerous other things we buy and collect over a lifetime?

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6: 19-21.

  2. I bet they wont need any players to play any DVDs or MP3s in Heaven. The angels will make such beautiful music on their own. Maybe we will all just 'be love' and wont need the outer wrapping. None of that will matter anymore?

    1. Oh no ... Kim. You mean Heaven will be full of Harpo Marx playing the harp? I hate that kind of music. Surely there will be some rock and roll in Heaven. I don't mind the odd Gregorian chant; but not the harp for eternity.

      God bless.

  3. Victor, I'm with Kim : ) I pray the angels will just have all the ready made music and we won't have to figure out any more technological stuff.
The best present I got for Mother's Day was from my daughter-in-law...She sent me a whole envelope full of real live pictures of my grandson I could touch with my hands! Did you ever think we'd see the day? Blessings +

    1. Hi Caroline,

How nice to see you visiting me here. Thank you. Hope you visit again soon.

Yes, real photos are a treasure, aren't they? I don't mind the angels playing ready made music as long as they can play "Don't step on my blue suede shoes!".

God bless you and your family.

  5. Are you looking at our house through my laptop camera Victor??? LOL I could make a list of things that I wish I hadn't bought or have too many of. But, this next week is the start of Operation Simplify here in Aimee-Ville. Great Bible verses--so very, very true!
Have a blessed Sunday and thanks so much for your answer to my question. I was raised with a more literal understanding of Creation, but I can also see that the one you gave would be true to Scripture also. Good comments also on the animal accounting--I think you're right on that.
    Blessings, Aimee

    1. It's always a pleasure to see you visiting here Aimee. Thanx. Please feel free to ask me questions on Christianity, (or any subject in my posts) either here or at my private address on the tab at the top right of this page.

Yes, we all tend to collect and hoard more than we need. Personally, I think if it is not edible it is not worth collecting. Do they make chocolate shoes, bags, CDs, DVDs and so on?

      God bless you and yours.

  6. Hi Victor! Something tells me that I won't care one whit about my music or shoe collection when I get to heaven. Just praise all day!
It is amazing how much 'stuff' we collect. And by 'we' I mean me. Why can't I do without the things I really don't use? Sometimes being human is to be an enigma...
Happy Father's Day! (Its Fathers Day in the US)

    1. Great to see you visiting again Ceil. Welcome back.

We all tend to collect more than we need. I think it's the fear of going without.

Thanx for your good wishes. It is Father's Day here too.

      God bless you and yours.
