Noisy Hotel Night

I spent the night at a hotel in the city a couple of days ago. I was there on business.

As I tried to get to sleep, and perhaps enjoy a nice dream, there was this continuous noise from the room next to me. Why are people so inconsiderate at times, especially when in public places like a hotel? Why do they have to make such noise?

For a long while there was this banging on the wall and a voice crying, "Is any one there? Is any one there? I have fallen? Is there anyone there?"

I thought, "What a self-centred egotistic person! All right. He has fallen; does he have to tell everyone about it? We have all fallen at one time or another. We are all sinners after all!"

Anyway, eventually he stopped banging on the wall. Must have got tired I suppose.

To make matters worse, the next morning whilst I was leaving the hotel, there was an ambulance out there in the car park. I was upset that it blocked my car because I wanted to leave for an urgent business meeting that morning.

Some people are really inconsiderate.

  2. You never know what others are going through. We tend to think about ourselves first and foremost. A really good lesson in that story.
    Thank you Victor!

  3. My husband was once in a brand new hotel on business and was talking on the phone at 6.30 a.m. The people in the next room tapped on his door pleading with him to speak more quietly as he had awakened them. When he was going through his complimentary bag of goodies, he found earplugs and apparently there had been lots of complaints as the walls were ‘paper’ thin. Cutting costs in building materials I suppose.

  4. Yes, Victor, you certainly give us lots to think about here. Our tendency is to be self-centered, even when God has clearly told us that is NOT the right attitude to have.
    Blessings to you!

  7. Having just retired from a lodging operation whose guest rooms' walls were paper thin, I can sure identify! But your story sure calls for some self-examination: Where have I last turned a deaf ear?

    1. Do you mean you also had the same experience of someone banging on your hotel room wall, Lulu? It is so annoying when people do that, is it not?
