I started a new hobby. Something that will keep me svelte and youthful as ever.
I have taken up synchronised solo swimming. At first I could not swim at all, but I tried learning it from a book. The pages got all wet.
I have bought a new two-piece costume and I go to the local swimming bath and practice twice a week.
My instructor says with synchronised solo swimming there is less chance that someone will be out of step with the others.
My instructor is Miss Ava Sprinkle. She made quite a splash at the Olympics some years back. So much so that half the audience nearly drowned. She taught me how to swim upside down with my legs in the air which I twist round and round like an egg-beater. I can do it for up to 30 seconds then turn over and come up for air.
She explained that we must not fear the water as it is our friend. The best way to gain confidence is to throw yourself backwards in the pool. This way you do not see the water coming towards you.
To practice, she showed me how to do it on a trampoline first.
All in all, it is early days yet. Ava Sprinkle suggested I practice synchronised swimming with other people on-line by linking our computer monitors together and see each other on the screen.
Are any of you interested in joining in? We need a team of ten people.
...today YouTube videos can teach you everything!
ReplyDeleteI tried that. Got an electric shock when I put the laptop in the pool whilst swimming.
DeleteGod bless, Tom.

God bless you, Regine.
DeleteSynchronized solo swimming ... you are so funny, Victor! Thank you for blessing my funny bone this morning.
ReplyDeleteThe good thing, Mevely, if I make a mistake in the swimming exercise no one in the audience notices. They think it is part of the dance. Except when I swallow some water and cough like mad - this is not part of the exercise and the audience will notice. Do you want to join our synchronised swimming team? No volunteers so far.
DeleteGod bless.
One of the classes I take at the gym is Aqua Zumba. The instructor stands on the side of the pool and the people in the class follow her moves. I stand in water deep enough that no one can see when I make a mistake.
DeleteMy instructor, Ava Sprinkle, started me off with Aqua Zumba. I stood on the side of the pool with my feet in buckets of water and followed her moves in the water.
DeleteGod bless, Kathy.
I'm seconding what Mevely said! Blessings, Victor!
ReplyDeleteVolunteers for the swimming team wanted. Interested?
DeleteGod bless, Martha.
You're breaking new ground here, Victor or should I say water. You're on the cutting edge of creating a new sport. I wish you the best.
ReplyDeleteI hope it takes off as a new sport. Like singles skating, or solo gymnastics, or diving in a pool. I am now trying out singles tennis; where the player plays on his own and runs from one end of the court to the other. Quite tiring.
DeleteGod bless, Bill.
Querido Víctor, nado desde los 3 años, soy un pez en el agua, me encanta.
ReplyDeleteAbrazos y te dejo un besito, que tengas un feliz día
TRANSLATION: Dear Víctor, I have been swimming since I was 3 years old, I am a fish in water, I love it.
DeleteHugs and I leave you a kiss, have a happy day.
Hi Liz. Swimming can be fun. Thank you for your good wishes. God bless you.
Unfortunately, there's no pool here and no time to practice with work. In fact, I get so far behind in blog reading it's scary. I do hope you enjoy it, though!
ReplyDeleteNo need for a pool, Mimi. You can practice on dry land on a carpet indoors, or in the garden. Just lie down and pretend you are solo synchronised swimming.
DeleteGod bless.
