You may have seen this symbol on the back of some cars. My car has one.
Why is the FISH a symbol of Christianity?
The symbol of a fish was found on ancient Christian monuments and buildings. It represents Christ.
The Greek word for "fish" is ICHTHUS.
If we take the letters of that word they provide the first letters of other Greek words.
Iesous Christos Theou Uios Soter
Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour
So the symbol of the fish suggests all this to a Christian. It may well
have been a secret sign used by early Christians to identify each other.
😄 Did my post inspire this post?
ReplyDeleteAlso, He makes us fishers of men.
Yes and no, Sandi. Here's my original article about it:

But your article was very inspiring nonetheless. God bless you and thanx.

I'm always amazed at the patience and skills in stitching. I have no patience at all - or skills.
DeleteGod bless you, Catherine.
I had no idea! Very interesting. Thank you Victor!
ReplyDeleteMany thanx, Sandie. God bless you.
DeleteI had heard about the fish being a way for early Christians to connect with one another - one would draw one half of a fish in the dirt, and if the other person completed the picture, they could speak openly to each other about their faith. I loved your explanation of it here, Victor. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThank you Martha. I researched this and it is interesting that the Greek word for fish is an anagram of Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour.
DeleteGod bless.
I've often seen this symbol, but had no idea what it meant. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWith that symbol on the back of my car I do not dare to drive badly or give a hand sign to other drivers telling them they are Number 1!
DeleteGod bless, Mevely.
That was interesting!
ReplyDeleteThank you and God bless, CM.
