When Jesus taught us to pray – forgiveness is the only petition to God to which He attached a condition.
He said: Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sinned against us.
I hope He finds me forgiving when the time comes for me to meet Him.

I'll never forget the day the Lord brought this particular text to my attention. I was holding a grudge against someone at the time and although I have prayed and read the Lord's Prayer often, it was as if I was reading this text for the first time! It was as if God was saying,"If I were to forgive you in the same way as you forgive your sister, then you will remain unforgiven!" It really made me sit up and take notice of what the Lord teaches us through this text.
ReplyDeleteThanx for your comment.
ReplyDeleteWe often forget or unwittingly ignore the seriousness behind that petition. If everyone forgave in the same way they expect to be forgiven by God, the world would be a better place.
