Faith and Action

What does it mean to be a Christian? To have Faith?

We proclaim we are Christians, we go to church on Sunday, other days even, we pray, and we fast perhaps. But is that enough?

When we get to meet God, will we say: “I helped in church every week. I cleaned the church and arranged the flowers. Please let me in Heaven.” or “I served on the church council for years, I was responsible for the readers’ rota and I read in church on Sundays many times. I typed and printed the weekly church newsletter. Please let me in.”

Is this what it means to be a Christian?

Or should we be a channel of His peace as St Francis of Assisi prayed? Or help the poor and destitute as Mother Theresa did?

"My brothers and sisters, what good is it for people to say that they have faith if their actions do not prove it? Can that faith save them? Suppose there are brothers or sisters who need clothes and don't have enough to eat. What good is there in your saying to them, “God bless you! Keep warm and eat well!” — if you don't give them the necessities of life? So it is with faith: if it is alone and includes no actions, then it is dead." James 2:14-17.

  3. Definitely a combination of love, devotion, faith and works. We should strive to Help those in need (of things and Christ)
Sherry & jack, this points out a great misu nderstanding among our Christian community...

    1. I agree, Jack & Sherry, about the misunderstanding. Many believe they'll get to Heaven by spending their lives on their knees. But where is the Christian action and love towards others.

      God bless always.

  6. thecontemplativecat@blogspot.com here. Wrestling with google is exhausting. "Let us be transparent, so God can be seen through me." is so meaningful.

  8. Yes, I have been thinking about this much lately. Some claim they are Christians, which is wonderful, but they don't forgive, they don't take time for the elderly, they judge others unfairly, and they don't love. Being a Christian is often times swimming away from the crowds and not giving into the nonsense of the world.

Thank you for this post, my friend. It makes people think. ; )

    1. Thank you Sheri for your good sense. Sadly, many Christians are so in name only. They just see it as a badge, or a title; and not as a way of life.

      God bless always.

  9. Dearest Victor,
Faith and living a life of faith indeed!
Just lip service will not save us for reaching our desired Final Destination!

  10. He lets us into heaven because of what Jesus did for us in His life, death and ressurection. Because He first loved us, we want to love Him and spread that to others by serving them. It all goes hand in hand.

  11. If we put God first in our lives, the other things will fall into place. We get to go to heaven because of God's grace, not by anything we can do ourselves! :)
