Tomorrow marks the beginning of Lent - traditionally people give up something for Lent. It could be chocolates, drinks, entertainment or something similar.
For Lent I am giving up caring.
What's the use of caring?
What is the point of shaving and trimming my beard every day? It grows back again in a few days.
What's the use of wearing clean close every day? They get dirty again soon enough.
What's the use of vacuum cleaning every day? The house gets dirty again in a few minutes. Now the vacuum cleaner stands in the corner gathering dust by itself.
What is the point of watching the News on TV and getting upset at what's happening in the world? I can't control anything anyway.
So I decided to stop caring altogether about everything.
Other things I will not care about are whisky, chocolates and cookies and cakes and other goodies I like.
I'll give the money I saved to The Salvation Army, because I care about them and the work they do.

The Salvation Army has always held a special place in my heart, too. What a great idea to set aside the money we would have spent on frivolities and give to a deserving charity. Great Lenten message, Victor. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThe SA has been a favourite charity of mine for many years. At least they'll benefit from my chocolates and drinks money this Lent.
DeleteGod bless, Martha.
The next time someone asks what I'm giving up for Lent, I want to use your line!
ReplyDeleteI think there comes a time in life when we realise what is really important and what is not. Years ago, when a member of an important organisation a matter of different opinions divided the organisation almost to destruction. Everyone took sides and were in entrenched positions. Looking back now ... was it that important? Probably not.
DeleteAs I look at the world today; there are so many disagreements and divisions. Are they really worth caring about and losing sleep over? ??? ??? Can I influence any of them one little bit? Even my dog does not listen to me these days. I say "Go to bed!" and he replies, "Who's Ted?"
God bless, Mevely.
I like your unique take on Lenten sacrifices. I've asked Hubby to hide the box of good dark chocolate tonight so it won't call my name once Lent starts.
ReplyDeleteGood idea, Kathy. And you can give any money you save the next 40 days to charity.
DeleteGod bless you always.
I like the Salvation Army too Victor. Good organization.
ReplyDeleteThanx Sandie. I like to listen to them when they play many tunes at Christmas in our city centre. Also in summer by the river.
DeleteGod bless.
Like others have also commented, I too the Salvation Army.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thanx Jan. God bless.
DeleteCount me in! I like the Salvation Army as well.
ReplyDeleteAmen Debby. God bless you.
DeleteWhat a great idea! Salvation Army does great work here, too.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Mimi. God bless.
DeleteOkay, you brought back memories. Once in formation, we were getting ready to march to chow. Sgt. called me out, YOU did not make up your rack this morning.
ReplyDeleteYeah I know sarg, but why bother I will just mess it up to night.
"FALL OUT DARNELL, no need for you to go to chow, you will just get hungry again." I did not eat breakfast that morning.
True dat. BUT I did get a book with a Big ? mark on it. I was disappointed, My question should have been answered first. It was "Did the LOrd believe the earth was round?" I figure if anyone should know it would be him!>
Sorry to take so long. Looking forward to the book and THANKS for all the prayers for me.
Very good point, Jack; about getting hungry again and again. I often wondered why. That's why I don't bother with a lot of cooking; a quick KFC will do.
DeleteYes, the Lord knew that the earth is round - this is because it makes it easier to spin round and round, compared to a square world or any other shape.
I once asked a priest: Did God also create other creatures/aliens on other planets? He replied: There are enough problems on this world without you inventing others!
Thank you for buying my book "CHRISTIAN QUESTIONS You wondered but did not ask". I did a lot of research in writing this book. I hope you like it. Thanx my friend.
God bless you, Jack. Praying for you and your family.
I somehow feel like you are pulling our leg Victor... on some of these things you are not going to care about...lol..Chocolates? I am so thankful for the Salvation Army and all of the good that they do. Many folks have been blessed due to this very organization. Two of my favorites are Salvation Army and the Make a Wish foundation. Have a super great Wednesday...
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, Shug, by giving up chocolates and sweet things, and drinks, the money I save over Lent will be given to the Salvation Army. So, as of yesterday I don't care about chocolates.
DeleteGod bless you always.
Something to ponder here, Victor!
ReplyDeleteIndeed Barbara. God bless you always.
Deletethecontemplativecat here Giving up caring...that would be amazingly bad. Lent is here already! In Ireland there is a custom of pancake Tuesday, where all the sugar sweet makings are cleared out of the cupboards. I loved seeing Christians from newscasters with ash crosses on their foreheads, as part of their witness to salvation through Christ. Caring is a rare commodity in this time.
ReplyDeleteYes, we have the same tradition of pancakes over here too.
DeleteGod bless, Susan.
