God's Timescale

Nothing teaches us patience like waiting.

Remember when you were young and lacked patience? In those days a week was like a year. Especially if you’d been promised something by your parents and you had to wait and wait …

I suspect the same applies to us when we relate to God. We pray for something and wait … but God does not work to our timescales. He has His own plans and maybe what we’re asking for is not good for us … just yet.

Which reminds me of another story which I remember very distinctly from my youth.

The reading in church was from 2 Peter 3:8 where he says: “There is no difference in the Lord’s sight between one day and a thousand years; to Him the two are the same”.

I remember thinking as a child: it must be difficult to have an appointment with God. Imagine God saying to Moses to go to Mount Sinai “tomorrow”; and Moses asking “Is that in 24 hours or in a thousand years time? Because I’d be dead by then!”

I hope God forgave the impertinent mind of young child.

  1. Well, we all know we have an appointment with God. May he have mercy on us all.

  3. I was just thinking of what a Clock says, Tic Talk, Tic Talk, Tic Talk

I'm sure that GOD (Good Old Dad) will forgive me for thinking such a thing...lol

    God Bless

  4. The passage you quoted has always been one of the hardest things for me to understand. How can a day be a thousand years? How can time work like that (or not work at all for that matter)? I come to grips with it by chalking it up to one of those things that is impossible for us as humans to understand. But it doesn't stop my from wondering.

I did very much enjoy your joke about the appointment!

    God Bless you!

    1. Michael, there are so many things in my little book which I'd like to ask God about one day. This is one of them.

You know, I read somewhere that if you need to pray for someone, say a friend undergoing an operation today at 1.00pm; yet - it is now already 5.00pm. You can say the prayer anyway even if the operation has taken place; because to God time is elastic and , if it is His will, your prayer would be heard even if said AFTER the event in question. I'm not sure I quite understand that. Another thing to put in my book.

      God bless you.

  5. Hi Victor! I am well versed in God's timing, believe me. It seems like I always think God will take care of me right away. But I forget it's all about his timing. Not mine.
I sure hope he will help me to understand his ways. But if I never do, it's okay. I'll be granted the patience I need to wait in his arms.
    Blessings!

    1. It's great to see you visiting again Ceil. Thank you. I hope you are getting better. I am praying for you.

God's timing is, as everything else, according to His will. I hope and pray that, as you say, He looks down on us and longs to hold us in His arms.

      God bless you.

  6. A great post Victor! Patience is not one of my better attributes, being part of the first "now" generation. I think part of the secret of patience lies in trust and love. By that I mean as our trust and love in God grows, so will our ability to be able to wait on His answer to our prayers--knowing that He knows best; knowing that His love for us is a perfect love.
    Have a great week!
    Blessings, Aimee
