Self-Confidence

It is said that Moses took 40 years to travel from Egypt through the desert to the Promised Land. Considering the distance involved this must have been incompetence to the highest degree … perhaps he was going round in circles.

I reckon that unbeknown to him, Mrs Moses was asking for directions secretly and, when appropriate, she pointed him in the right way to go.

Being a woman, she allowed him to take all the credit for getting there at last.

Moral of the story:

Never rely on what you think you know. Always consider the possibility that you may be wrong. (Especially if your wife tells you so).

  1. 2,000+ years later and yet still men will not ask for directions! So, that's why we bought a Garmin. Hubby may not ask but at least he'll look at the pictures. ~:)

    1. Ah Sparky !!! I have difficulties with the Garmin. What is a man to do when the lady in the Garmin says go one way, and the lady sitting beside him says go another way?

At least the Garmin lady does not punish me when we get home later!

      God bless.

  2. My wife tells me all the time. How annoying. I bet Moses was annoyed with his wife too. Yakitty, yakitty, yak. They drive you bonkers and make you lose your way. That's why Moses couldn't find his way. His wife was distracting him by talking too much. Isn't that a better understanding of the story? :-P

    1. Manny, I think you got it just about right. I wonder how wives would react if you stood in the kitchen and said: Careful you don't burn this. You've spilt some milk over there. Is that toast burning. The eggs are still not well cooked; they are runny!

We men are good drivers and always know the way. When we're lost we just drive fast in any direction and we'll soon be out of the lost area we're in. It's logical.

      God bless.

  3. Wasted time, that is all it amounts to, wasted time.
I have never understood - what is the big deal about asking for directions?
Is it pride? Thank goodness for GPS systems...although they are not always reliable.
So, when lost, which saint would a person pray to when asking for help, St. Anthony or St. Jude? Certainly not Moses...maybe Mrs. Moses?!?

Thank you for the funny thought...
    God bless.

    1. Great to see you visiting again, Hand Maid. Thanx.

Asking for directions is not logical. It shows a certain loss of control. It's admitting we got it wrong. And as you know, men never get things wrong.

I'm not sure which Saint to pray to when lost. St Christopher perhaps. Or all of them and let them sort it out between them.

      God bless.

  4. I read once somewhere that the direct route would have taken 11 days. I'm not sure that is true, but it is interesting. Thanks for another funny post!

    1. Eleven days would be about right on foot or with donkeys and camels, judging from the distance involved. I think they took so long because their focus was away from God and on self.

      God bless you, Michael.
