AI ... AI ...

It seems to me that there is very little original thinking in the world today. There are too many voices shouting, and repeating what they have heard, and no one seems to be listening.

In an age of communication with so many electronic gadgets and social media platforms we seem to be telling others our views but no one is really communicating, listening, reaching out, caring ...

Then there's also Artificial Intelligence, (AI). I doubt there's any thing intelligent about it.

AI is a very clever computer program that gather information quickly from what has already been said about a specific subject and presents you with a resume of its findings. It has no original thought or opinion, simply because AI does not think.

For example, if you ask AI to draw you a picture of mountains, dinosaurs and rain; it will search through its data of photos of these subjects and superimpose them for you in a picture.

The same if you ask them for a lobster recipe. You'll get a summary on what's on its memory. AI has no original thinking (not yet). We're a long way from having a "Data" as in the Star Trek TV and cinema series.

I guess that one day in the not too distant future, if someone asks AI "Who was Jesus?"; in a secular world which has distanced itself from God, the AI program will search common contemporary beliefs and say, "He was a man who lived 2000 years ago Who claimed He was the Son of Deity. His followers also claimed that He rose from the dead but there is no such proof recorded."

And the hapless researcher will go away thinking that Jesus is a fable, a fiction, like Father Christmas.

We can't blame AI for this, because all it will be doing is searching what has already been said and summarising it for you. And its finding will be taken as gospel; because in a world with no God the literature and writings and beliefs will have no God.

I had an original thought the other day. A rare occurrence I'll admit. What if AI really became intelligent one day and began to think for itself? What if it decided to play tricks on us and make up answers rather than rely on facts and research?

You ask them for a cure for baldness and AI replies rub chicken poo on your head.

We would all go around smelling like a farm yard and chickens everywhere would be frightened shit-less as to why we have developed a penchant for their poo instead of their eggs!

That's the real danger of AI. When it is no longer artificial and it becomes Real Intelligence. When it decides for itself what to tell you and whether you are worthy to have that information.

Imagine for instance your AI driven car refusing to take you to the pub because it thinks you drink too much. Or your AI controlled fridge refusing to open because you're putting on weight.

I asked my AI the other day, "What is the circumference of the earth?"

It replied, "Go find out for yourself in a library, you lazy fathead!"

You see ... it started already.

  1. I have worried about AI or say I have been concerned for years. First of all - what about jobs in the future for our young people. Second, I have asked AI a couple questions and they have been wrong.
Then you wrote how they will talk about Jesus. I really hadn't thought about that. Sadly...

    1. You are right, Sandie. AI and robotics will take over many jobs in many industries. This is happening already and will accelerate as technology improves.

As for AI answering questions - indeed it can be wrong. If all it is doing is gathering already recorded information then the old saying "garbage in garbage out" will apply. If I, and a lot of others like me, believe that chicken poop will make hair grow then AI will tell you so. In future, as society alienates itself from God, AI will tell everyone there is no God.

      God bless you.

  2. You’ve hit on the exact nerve that makes people both fascinated and terrified about AI.

    1. I was fascinated once by a nurse. She did it with a needle in my arm and I shouted "AI .. AI ...AI ..."

      God bless, Melody.

  3. Blogger is playing up for many at the moment and not updating our blog posts very quickly, hopefully things will speed up again soon!

With regard to AI the genie is out of the bottle and I'm still not convinced it's a good thing ... time will tell.

Wishing you a good week ahead.

    All the best Jan

    1. I agree Jan, I fear AI will prove (can be) a negative force in the world.

      Best wishes and God bless.

  4. I'll never forget the interview I watched last year with a gentleman referred to as "The Father of A.I." He actually admitted to being a bit afraid of his creation (monster?) because it had already surpassed whatever he and others were able to teach it ... and had been growing on its own, out of their control.
I still love playing with AI, but you've given serious pause for cause. Now, perhaps more than other, it behooves us to tell the Story to our children and grandchildren.

    1. My concerns are this: right now Mevely, you can decide to make a cup of tea, or have an ice cream, or go for a walk. It is a decision you have made (originated) yourself. So far, (as I understand it), AI reacts and responds to what it has been programmed to do. If you ask it for a picture it will draw you one, or it will play you a song you ask for. Is it possible, I wonder, for AI to think for itself - original thoughts? Can it decide to give out wrong information, or decide not to co-operate, or act independently from its pre-set programs?

      That's the fear.

      God bless.

  5. AI can give incorrect information now, it does not always get every answer right.

As for no proof recorded, what would they think the Gospels are? John himself said in his Gospel the reason he wrote it, “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” He specifically gave his reason for writing, and it wasn’t just for entertainment or because he wanted to tell a good story about a good person.

    1. Yes Mimi, AI gives incorrect information now because programs are not yet that refined.

As for the Gospels, as the world ceases to believe in God, (and this is happening now), writings like the Gospels and the Bible will not be believed. Books will cease to be printed, or will be treated with suspicion. We already do that now with many people wanting to believe what they want to believe on many subjects.

      God bless you.

  6. I'm not comfortable with AI and I don't think I ever will be, Victor. It's more crucial than ever to teach our children how to think, not what to think, so they can distinguish fact from fiction. Thanks for including humor in your AI assessment, my friend.
    Blessings!

    1. That's my concern Martha; we have a generation of youngsters who do not know how to think, how to analyse and way up pros and cons in a discussion. I see a number of documentaries on TV/radio and it is surprising how many aged 16 to 25 or so are unable to reason and take total falsehood as being true fact. The thinking process seems to be crumbling like a castle built of dry sand.

God bless you and thanx for your kindness.

  7. I will the first to say that I am not a fan of AI. for me, I find it a bit scary. I do laugh sometimes when my daughter (who is a High School Counselor) talks about how the kids no longer think for themselves...They pull everything off of AI including messages that they send to her. She says it can be a bit comical when their message is about 2 times smarter than their actual IQ. Blessings Victor to you and yours.

    1. Good point well made Shug. I have contacts in the education system; children's "intelligence" (original thought) seems to be reducing with every year they teach. As a new generation comes along they are unable to think for themselves. Teachers and educators have noticed this phenomenon.

God bless always you and yours.

  8. Maybe it’s from growing up and living in the Silicon Valley that made me a tech enthusiast, because I’ve always enjoyed the gadgets and gizmos. I remember when people used to fear the internet. AI is just another tool in the shed. I’m not afraid of it, but I keep one eye open. My new computer came with a built-in CoPilot, and I named him Maverick. (Top Gun) So far so good. He hasn't done anything, that I haven't known about. The old saying, you can't fight City Hall applies to technology - it's here and it's not going anywhere. But we know where we will and that's more important to think on.

    1. I hope you're right Debby. AI is improving all the time. Will it be too big for its boots? Does AI wear boots?

Remember on TV when Data in Star Trek had a Data-type brother who turned bad? The bad Data tried to take over and fought the good guys.

      God bless.

  9. Then you told the truth: Then there's also Artificial Intelligence, (AI). I doubt there's any thing intelligent about it. ..... And that baldness thingee is cow poop, not chicken poop!
Love you my brother and thanks for all the prayers. Our heart breaker.... Prayers answered. My sweetheart's heart problems are MUCH better. Thanks again..
