Vive La Difference

I can't even remember how the conversation started; but at a party the other day we were talking about the difference between men and women. Specifically, their attitudes towards sharing information, and talking with each other.

The discussion got to the notion that women would be more at ease sharing personal information with other women; especially relating to health and personal issues. If a woman had a health problem she'd be quite confident discussing it with a female friend. Probably more so than discussing it with a doctor; especially a male one.

I don't know how true that is. Would you be happy talking to a female friend rather than a doctor?

On the other hand, a man would not discuss health issues with another male friend. He would probably even be hesitant about going to a doctor; hoping the trouble would just go away by itself.

Again, I am not sure how true that is.

Personally, I would not discuss a personal health problem with another man. But I wouldn't mind discussing it with a complete stranger.

In fact I did so the other day.

I told this woman sitting next to me on the bus my personal problem and she slapped my face.

Totally un-sympathetic, she was!

  1. The only ones that I hesitate to talk to about my medical issues are my children. They are, of course, all adults. But I always see the worry that creeps across their faces, so I try not to worry them anymore than I have to.

Maybe you should just stick to polite conversations like the weather. Or "have you read any good books lately like mine? BTW...that's me on the advertisement on the side of the of this bus."

    1. P.S. Forgot to say that you may still get your face slapped but I would bet that your ad on the bus would get noticed ;)

    2. How kind of you to advertise my books, Jan. I much appreciate it. Indeed, the bus did have the advert for my books on the side; but that was not what I had told the woman about.

You are also so right about not discussing many medical issues with one's children. You are a caring person, I believe.

      God bless you.

  2. I prefer not telling my medical issues to anyone except Danny and my doctor. I think, too, that living with MIL who has a plethora of medical problems, makes me think twice about even mentioning mine. Don't think I'll get a face slap anytime soon!
    Blessings, Victor!

    1. I guess you are too gentle and sensitive to have your face slapped.

Unlike the woman on the bus who slapped me.

      God bless you Martha.

  4. I guess it time to turn the other cheek. :) I don't share health issues with anyone except my wife, Doctors are not on my favorite list either but unfortunately you have to talk to them.

    1. Doctor's are like car mechanics. They always find something wrong.

I went to see my doctor the other day. The poor man was sick, and it says in the Bible we should visit the sick. He said he wanted a second opinion because he did not trust his own diagnosis. So i told him he was ugly as well as sick.

      God bless you, Bill.

  5. Geeze, some people are so quick to take offense! (*smile*) I might get up and change seats, but assault? Nope; I don't look good in orange.

    1. Yep ... some people easily take offence, others take the garden gate too as well as the fence.

Everyone seems to take offence easily these days. In fact I take offence at the number of people who take offence so easily.

Was it not Bing Crosby who sang "Don't fence me in"? Now he was right, was he not?

      God bless you Mevely.

  6. I prefer a woman doctor which I do have.
I would talk about personal health problems with a woman friend but she'd have to be a good friend.

    1. Yes, I understand Happyone. That is what some women said in discussion.

      God bless you always.

  7. Doctors are strangers who get paid to listen as long as you can say what you need to say in 500 words or less. He/she wouldn't slap you because then he/she wouldn't get paid.
Hope that slap didn't hurt, Victor.

    1. How true, Chris. Why is it that doctors also always appear to be busy and it is an inconvenience when you visit them.

      God bless you my friend.
