On the carpet

We've got a room in the house that is tiled red and white. I think it's OK. But it has been suggested that it should be carpeted. So eventually, after being told several times, I emptied the room and decided to carpet it myself. I am after all an expert at everything.

I bought one of those electronic measuring tape type machines. It's a small box which you place near the wall and it sends an invisible beam to the opposite wall which somehow measures the distance; and then you can read the distance between the two walls on the little display screen.

Marvellous.

I measured the room in question and went to the carpet shop to buy the carpet.

I discovered the room is three kilometres long and four centimetres wide. The shop manager tells me they don't do carpets in those measurements. Wrong colours too! I wanted a carpet with red and white squares.

    1. I don't understand these new electronic contraptions. What's wrong with an old fashioned tape measure?

      God bless, Linda.

    1. I am not technically minded, Jack. I took the readings and showed them to the store manager.

Enjoy your holiday in North Carolina. God bless you both.

  5. Dearest Victor,
Haha, talking about that electronic measuring machine, I've seen one in action lately! Your description of it makes sense now but you forgot to measure 'all' sights and instead just went straight to the store...Haha!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. I don't know how to measure all sights. You put it near the wall and press a button. It records the measurement to the other wall in its memory. Then I showed the readings to the store manager. It read that the room is 3 kilometres long. Longer than the house itself; the manager said.

      God bless, Mariette.

  7. I like retractable tape measures the best. Everything doesn't have to be electronic.

  8. I watched a workman use one of those fancy measurers in my house the other day. It seemed like he knew as much as you did about working it.

  9. We also use the old regular tape measure.
Tiles are easier to keep clean than carpets!

    1. I agree with you, tiles are easier to clean, they save me money on buying a carpet, they save me the hassle of laying down the carpet too; but I lost the argument.

      God bless, Happyone.

  11. Good luck on finding your red and white carpet with squares. I would be tempted to keep the tile due to less maintenance. God Bless
