Wheat or what?

THERE ARE WEEDS EVERYWHERE THESE DAYS

Matthew 13:24 onwards

Jesus told them another parable, “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.

“The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’

“‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.

“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

“‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters, First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”

Today’s society is full of weeds. These are normally important people, educated scholars and scientists, celebrities, media personalities, influencers with large followings on social media. They seem to have made it their mission in life to tell all who are listening that there is no God. They often ridicule the very notion of believing in God, and portray it as antiquated superstition worthy of derision. Because of their eloquent ability to express their views, they are capable of changing vulnerable minds to their way of thinking.

Let us pray for them.

  1. ...perhaps weeds are merely plants out of place.

  2. Dearest Victor,
Weeds are digesting taking the space of the wheats, digesting the nutrients in the soil and absorbing the water... Resulting in death or very weak wheats. Pulling them up early on will give them a chance but waiting till the very end I'm afraid there will be very little left to really 'harvest'. Matthew no doubt had no inkling about being a profitable market gardener!
We better pray for that type of market gardener as well.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. I think Jesus knew what He was talking about, Mariette. He allows the weed, (bad people), to flourish in this world because they too have been given the free will to act as they wish. It is for us to decide whether to follow their example or not. You never know, sometimes bad people see the error of their ways and turn back to God before the harvest.

      God bless.

    1. You are so kind, Martha. Thank you for your loyalty and friendship and support.

When I write a book, (by the way, I am now struggling through my next Fr Ignatius novel - full story not just short stories), as I was saying ... when I write a book, I never know how it will be received by my readers. Sure, I have relatives reading proofs for me; but they are biased. What do my real readers think of my books? Are they tired of me? I've written 35 books so far. Time to give up?

      God bless you my friend.

  5. There will always be weeds in our society. We have to decide if we wish to nourish them by following them or let them fade by keeping the faith with God.

  6. Given the ignorance of so many celebrity opinions, it is pretty easy to ignore their noise.

    1. Sadly not, JoeH. Here in the UK such celebrities have a great following of immature vulnerable youngsters who follow their every word. And I mean people in their twenties and even thirties. You'd be surprised how many people believe that Jesus was just a teacher, or a wise man like Socrates, or Confucius or such like.

      God bless.
