How was I to know?

Something strange happened last winter. One day I noticed that the hamster was not moving. He was there in the corner of his cage, lying in a ball shape, not moving at all. I thought he was dead.

So I took him to a taxidermist friend of mine and got him stuffed.

How was I to know it was hibernating? I mean ... hamsters don't come with a warning saying likely to hibernate in winter.

I got him stuffed and put on the mantelpiece as a permanent reminder of the fun we had with him playing golf. He so enjoyed running miles ahead to fetch the ball when it went in the rough.

Anyway, come summer a few days ago, he suddenly woke up. His first thoughts were, "I feel stuffed. Must have eaten too much before going to sleep!"

Let that be a reminder to all of us not to eat so much before bedtime!

Come on folks! This is a joke. It did not really happen. Apart from the taxidermist bit, that is!

    1. I guess he was truly surprised by the event. Keep smiling, Mevely.

    1. Sometimes Bill, these weird thoughts come to my head. I just imagined a hibernating hamster being stuffed by a taxidermist. Or can you imagine a hibernating tortoise being made into soup?

It's good to laugh! God bless always.

  5. I'm thinking the taxidermist should have done a better job checking for vitals.

    1. He did. He checked his own blood pressure and heartbeat and he was OK. He did not have his spectacles on though.

      God bless, Kathy.

  6. Poor little Hamster. I can relate - I just had covid shot #2, and I too lay in bed very still for almost the whole week, but nobody bothered to have me stuffed. Oh, wait that was a blessing right? Blessings.

  7. I don't think he was ever stuffed. The taxidermist just took your money. :)

    1. I never thought about that. You're probably right, Happyone. Why do creatures hibernate anyway? I think it's a sign of laziness. We humans don't hibernate; why should they?

      God bless.

    1. He was very good at retrieving lost golf balls; but awful at carrying all the golf clubs and irons; or driving the electric cart.

      God bless, JoeH.

  9. Poor little thing, although better to be a bit full before sleeping than to wake in the night hungry.

    1. You're right, Mimi. It is awful waking up in the night hungry. Especially when you have to start cooking in the middle of the night. Making a casserole can take such a long time by the time it finishes it is already morning and I have breakfast instead.

      God bless always.

  10. I don't know anything about hamsters, do they hibernate or not? I'll have to look that up.

    1. Yes River, I do believe they hibernate. I've never understood why some animals, (insects even), hibernate. Would it be a good ideas if all humans, throughout the world, hibernated in winter? But then, who would clear all the snow from the garden path?

      God bless.
