It is said that Moses took 40 years to travel from Egypt through the desert to the Promised Land. He got the Jews out of Egypt and despite all that God did for them to save them out of slavery, they still disobeyed God and sinned.
They witnessed all the plagues that happened to Pharaoh and his people. They witnessed the parting of the sea, and how God made sure they were fed and watered on the way to the Promised Land. Yet, despite all that goodness and love from God their Creator, they still turned their backs on Him.
When Moses came down from the mountain with the Ten Commandments, he discovered that the people had made a golden bull which they chose to worship instead.I reckon that is why it took so long to cross the desert from Egypt to the Promised Land. Considering the distance involved they should have made the journey in a couple of weeks or so. They were going round in circles because of their disobedience and sin. A whole generation died in that journey and did not make it to the Promised Land.
But how about us today? How many people really believe in God; never mind obey Him? How many so-called Christians are only so in name only? And their lives are hardly what one would expect or do honour to God.
When God gave Moses the Ten Commandments He gave us rules to live by; not a set of suggestions to discuss and debate and alter to suit our selfish needs.
I wonder how long is our journey to our Promised Land, and would we all make it in the end?
I my early days of church and catechism..
ReplyDeleteWe were taught that if we had a problem,
to reach for the bible, and open it at
random, anywhere, and just read a few
lines/verses, and those lines would help
you overcome any problem that has befallen
you..! True? or False? Would you truly believe
it..?
As far as Moses was concerned..his journey to
Promised Land was a miracle! He did well, as
there was 'NO' Google maps back then..!
I have read the account many times in the bible,
but most important..I've seen the film 'The Ten
Commandments'..with Charlton Heston..1956..
Runs for 3hrs 40mins..
AND..AND..Did you know who played baby Moses in
the film..It was Charlton Heston's Son Fraser..!
And as far as the promised land is concerned....
We ALL have our various ideas on that question,
will we be riding around on clouds with wings,
playing our gold harps..NO! l don't think so...
No one knows on this earth our futures, no one,
that is where our beliefs and faith..such as it
is, comes in..one thing is for sure, we won't know
until after our demise..!
PS..Not a very nice/good statement from the Pope
this morning..! :(
We are all on our journey to meet God. Let us prepare now before it is too late.
DeleteGod bless, Willie.
...showing appreciation can be difficult for some.
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
DeleteGod bless, Tom.
How long, indeed? The names and places have all changed, but sometimes I wonder if history isn't repeating itself.
ReplyDeleteYes Mevely; history is repeating itself. These days people make a point of disobeying God by not believing in Him. They make a point of worshipping idols by choosing materialism and power instead. Same journey towards God; and different people acting the same way as before.
DeleteGod bless.
You asked: How many people really believe in God; never mind obey Him? ...... WHAT A DEEP QUESTION. I enjoyed the graphics along with a good timely post, as always...
ReplyDeleteSherry & jack still wandering, well he is anyway! ..... (He won't ask, she won't tell!)
I designed the cartoons some years ago, Jack.
DeleteIt is sad, I believe, that many people these days just do not believe there is a God Who created us all. To them, there is no One to obey.
God bless you and Sherry and family.
Lots of people would rather shop than have a discussion about God. God, to them, is boring.
ReplyDeleteSad isn't it?
DeleteGod bless you, Bill.
Dearest Victor,
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question!
There are so many on this earth that 'lecture' others but don't have a good GPS for their own soul.
Living by example is key.
People can learn a lot from their pets as they truly demonstrate their love and loyalty by actions... not by words alone.
Hugs,
Mariette
The world seems to have gone crazy and people seem more selfish these days. They certainly have lost their GPS of life.
DeleteGod bless, Mariette.
💞
DeleteNow a days it might have taken even longer!!!
ReplyDeleteI just read about Moses and the 10 commandments in my Bible reading this morning!
Yes, that is certainly true, Happyone. They would never have reached the Promised Land.
DeleteGod bless.
Human nature does not change, only the technology gets more complicated. We have the same challenges and propensity to sin that they had.
ReplyDeleteSin has always been with us in one form or another.

Men will not ask for directions, but women when lost will ask a man. Men won't ask men for directions as we know they will never admit they don't know.
ReplyDeleteI think I have been pretty good with the commandments...two wives were not so good with number 6. Actually that was fortunate for me.
The thing about asking directions is that I do not know what to do when my wife says turn left and the woman on the satellite navigation system says turn right. What if the voice on the satellite was a man? Who do I listen to then?
DeleteIt's good to see you visiting me again, JoeH. Many thanx.
God bless.
I think those of us with good intentions will get there because God is very forgiving. Those who are deliberately evil will have to go the other way.
ReplyDeleteGod can see how honest and true are our intentions; or are they just paying lip-service to His Word, or just an insurance policy just in case ...
