Advice Wanted Please

I need your advice please.

Genuine advice. I'd rather you were honest with me and don't worry about upsetting me.

I have recently been going through some old magnetic tapes of Christian radio programs I used to present years ago. Old tapes deteriorate with time and I have been re-mastering those I could salvage from the ravages of time.

I posted one of these programs in my previous post here. You may have listened to it.

The original programs were half-an-hour long; but I do know that you are all busy and don't have the time to listen to me prattling on about Christianity for such a long time. So I have edited the programs into chunks of 10 to 12 minutes or so.

What I need your advice on is:

1   Is it worth me re-mastering these tapes and posting them here? Is this pure vanity and should I better throw the whole lot in a trash bin?

2   If you think there's something in my tapes worth preserving, is this Blog the best avenue for it? Is there anywhere else you think I should post these segments of old programs?

Please be honest in your comments below. Or if you prefer, you can write to me privately at enquiries@holyvisions.co.uk Your e-mails will reach my desk and no one else will read them.

Thank you for your attention. God bless.

  1. Yes! Though I have not listened to all of them...

But I think you should re-listen to them and then film new ones where you are talking and put them on You Tube. There are a few ministers I watch on there and even some who are ordinary people talking about God who probably would not call themselves ministers, but they are ministering. Why not you too...on You Tube?

I have watched videos that are about 30 minutes, some that are short 2 minute thoughts, and a few longer. I think 10 minutes or so is good.

    1. Thank you Sandi for your thoughts. I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately, these are old magnetic tapes of programs which include music. Sometimes, the comments I make relate to the song or hymns which have just been played. They were spontaneous, unprepared, off-the-cuff, Christian radio programs that were broadcast live. For me to listen to them and then re-record them in front of a camera would involve a lot of work, and costs. And of course would not sit well with a radio program which plays music.

That's why I have cut the original programs which were half-an-hour, (some longer), into segments of 10/12 minutes. I had to edit at a point that made sense when listened to and not have way through a song or monologue.

I am very grateful for your comments, Sandi, and for taking the time to write in and for your support.

      God bless you always.

    2. Well, you could still post them on You Tube. Some of the videos on there are audio only. They put a little photo on the screen.

    3. Yes, Sandi. That is what I hope to do. I hope you like what I post there. Then every now and then I'll post one item here too.

      God bless you always.

  2. Because we were in a public venue most of yesterday, I was unable to listen to yesterday's post. We've recently returned home, but I fully intend to listen tomorrow. You see, I've come to hunger for the truth. (*smile*)
To answer your question? In general, I think more people are comfortable with 10-minute segments.

    1. Thank you for being a kind and loyal supporter, Mevely. I agree, 10 to 12 minutes is the ideal. I'll edit the programs at a point that is suitable with the discussion being said at the time so that it makes sense.

      God bless, Mevely.

  3. Any longer than ten minutes I think most people wouldn't listen to it all.
I know I just don't have the time to listen to more.
I thought Sandi's ideas were great.

    1. That's true, Happyone. Around 10 minutes should be the right length of segments.

Thanx always, my friend. God bless.

  4. 1 Is it worth me re-mastering these tapes and posting them here?
Is this pure vanity and should I better throw the whole lot in a trash bin?

I would imagine it depends on the cost. Does it cost a lot of money or is it relatively inexpensive? I can't answer that. No it's not vanity. I have heard a couple of them over the years and I thought they were very good. I don't like to see efforts of loving human beings just vanish from the earth as if it never happened. Your heart went into those recordings. They were you working with the Holy Spirit. I think they have value in posterity.

2 If you think there's something in my tapes worth preserving, is this Blog the best avenue for it? Is there anywhere else you think I should post these segments of old programs?

I don't know. Where else could you post them? It seems like a worthy place, but I don't know any better.

    1. Now that I think of it, you can get a YouTube account and upload them onto YouTube. It's no different than a blog. I think people call them vlogs. Look up the word vlog or vlogger. Also they create podcasts somehow and post them on their written blogs. I'm not hip on all these new things, but I'm sure you can look them up or ask someone more familiar with internet stuff.

    2. Thanx again Manny for your valuable contributions.

As for costs - it costs me nothing to listen and re-master the old magnetic tapes into a digital format, apart from time and effort. I have managed to salvage a few whose listening quality has not deteriorated beyond salvage.

As you suggest, I will post them on You Tube and every so often post one here too. I'll look up the vlog option too.

Thanx Manny. God bless you always.

  5. Save what you can of them, and yes, post them. YouTube, or a vlog, whatever you can. It's always worth getting the message out.

  6. I would do the tapes in 10 minute clips. Audio or video much longer than that, people get bored. I don't like anything over 15 minutes because that is one long segment. Also, if you are listening to the tapes when digitizing them, then it becomes a longer process for you, like you said, it is time consuming. So if you are relistening them, why not pick out the parts/sections that you like and post those. There's nothing wrong with short sound bites. Five minutes or less. It could be a look or listen back in time and give the people a glimpse of how such messages have changed through the years. Just a thought, I used to digitize audio for a university oral history program and it is time consuming, Pick the best sections, do a few and get some opinions. You know we all have those. :) Have a wonderful day, Victor.

    1. Thank you so much for your good advice, Bill. Yes, I hope to make segments of 10 or so minutes at a time as long as where I "cut" the tape makes sense to the conversation. It is so time consuming, as you say.

God bless you, Bill. Wishing you a superb day.

  7. Victor, sounds like you have what you need to get started. If what you have recorded is truth and is being shared in love... that is our calling. Provided you have the time to spend in editing and posting and it isn't taking away from other areas of your life that are more important, I say go for it.

  8. Victor, I must confess that I didn't have time that day to simply relax and listen to the audio tape. I know I can always go to the post when and if the chance arises.
As far as posting these, I think you should follow your heart. If your message is meaningful and relevant to Christian edification, then it is absolutely the right thing to do. Good luck with this new venture!
    Blessings!

    1. Thank you Martha. When I listen to these tapes I ask myself, "Did I really say that? Is this me talking about my faith and beliefs?"

The programs were a mix of Bible readings, Christian music, and me discussing various matters of faith, such as praying, believing and so on.

      God bless.

  9. I have not listened to your tape. I'm one of those strange persons whose brain shuts down when listeneing as opposed to when reading. But even if what you say is only half as good as what you writh here when you're serious ;) it's worth preserving. I'd say go for it.

  10. My attention span is kind of short, and I read a lot of blogs so I prefer posts under 1000 words. If you listed topics where we could select to listen I would from time to time visit that site

  11. I believe you should revamp your recordings Victor.
I believe the messages that you teach are very important and your voice is soothing to listen to.
As others have said...keeping the videos short is important but what you are teaching is important, too.

The final decision is up to you 💮

    God's Blessings Victor ✝
