Drum Roll

There's this annoying habit on TV which I call the suspense drum roll. It's usually on quiz shows. The host of the program asks the contestant a question. The contestant answers. The host replies, "Your answer is ... (ten seconds drum roll to build up the suspense), CORRECT!"

And everyone applauds.

This is happening all too often. Almost every quiz show now has the suspense drum roll even if the question answered is so inane that we all know it is correct anyway.

Imagine if this happened in other walks of life.

You go to your doctor for a check-up and he says, "Your cholesterol level is ... (ten seconds drum roll)" ... and he gives you your reading.

Or imagine on TV a politician being asked whether the Government will increase taxes and he says, "the answer to this is .... (drum roll) ..."

The other day I asked my wife a question. There was a twenty seconds drum roll suspense-wait before she said she had a headache!

  2. Life would be awfully crazy if our every answer is preceded by a drum roll. I think I'll pass on that!
    Blessings, Victor!

  3. HaHa...I like this. I watch Natisha Cooking videos, and she always starts with a drum roll with her hands on the counter. I wouldn't have even thought about it until reading your funny article.

    1. It's all this adding suspense to life, Wanda. TV seems to need it all the time. Imagine if the news, the weather, the sports results, everything was preceded by a drum roll.

God bless you and your family.

  4. Dearest Victor,
Haha, love the final one and probably the most classic one.
Those drum roll moments are cheap time fillers!
As a whole, a lot of words are often uttered and very little actually gets said! People don't even see through this...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Good point, Mariette, about the time fillers. I had to wait in suspense for what seemed eternity until my wife answered.

      God bless always.

  5. Are you a mind reader, Victor? That is one of my biggest pet-peeves. Only last night during the elimination rounds of America's Got Talent they were doing the same thing. Why, a body's practically got time to go in the kitchen and prepare a sandwich. Glad to know I'm not alone!

    1. You're right, Bill. Life seems like a continuous drum roll every time I switch on the news on TV or radio.

      God bless always.

  7. We have drummers in the family, so I'm probably immune to drum rolls etc.
Having said that it is family tradition if we are sharing good news to begin with a drum roll! Perhaps this would annoy some? I don't know.

    Have a happy Friday.

    All the best Jan
