OK folks ... I'll need your help with this.
When I was a radio presenter, many years ago, I had a pop music program where I played various records for about two or three hours. It was different kinds of music. Sometimes a mixture of Pop, Classics, Country and Western and so on. And sometimes a theme like all love songs, or all groups as opposed to singleton singers, and so on.
One program I presented once featured a name place of an American State, or town or city for every song I played. Songs like New York New York, by Frank Sinatra, or I left my heart in San Francisco by Tony Bennett.
And this is where you come in.
Can you name as many songs as you know featuring an American name place?
I'll start you off: I'm Alabama bound, From Boulder to Birmingham, Do you know the way to San Hose? 24 hours from Tulsa, Is this the way to Amarillo?
Over to you ... ... ...
...Victor, you have much better recall than I do!
ReplyDeleteAll these records buzz in my mind all the time, Tom. As I hear them I remember back to when I played them on the radio.
DeleteGod bless.
By the Time I Get to Phoenix; Georgia on my Mind; Chattanooga Choo-Choo; the song about Massachusetts by the Bee-Gees; If You're Going to San Francisco . . .
ReplyDeleteThat's all I can think of off the top of my head, Victor. What a fun challenge!
What a great selection, Martha. I like them, especially "And the lights ... all went out ... in Massachusetts." And San Francisco by Scott McKenzie. I often played these songs on the radio. Oh ... the memories.
DeleteGod bless always.
I love challenges like this, Victor! Your station manager/owner sounds really refreshing, allowing you to build your own playlists. I'd have been like a little kid in a candy store!
ReplyDeleteHow about -- Sweet Home Alabama, Arizona (Mark Lindsey), Carolina in my Mind, North to Alaska, Yellow Rose of Texas ...
You know, once I hit 'publish' my mind will start to fill with others I've forgotten.
Great selection, Mevely. Please feel free to return again with other titles before other readers mention them first. There are still quite a few songs out there with a name place in the title.
DeleteGod bless you, and thanx for taking part.
The first one that came to mind was Galveston by Glen Campbell ... there must be many others but my mind has gone blank at the moment!!!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Good one, Jan. I liked that song. There are plenty others. Come back when you think of them.
DeleteGod bless.
I am drawing a blank but loving the comments. BUT I see such a waste next door here. Jim was a disc jokey, his back porch had thousands of tapes, discs, books of music and they are being destroyed in the weather. Jim was a famous singer in the 50-60 70 time frame. Even in the Country Music and Hill Billy Hall of Fame...
ReplyDeleteHello Jack. Ask Jim to name a few songs then come back here and tell us ... before someone else does so.
DeleteGod bless you.
City of New Orleans, Amarillo by Morning, L.A. Woman, Viva Las Vegas, Walking In Memphis, Ventura Highway....
ReplyDeleteBravo Kathy. You got some good ones here. Please come back when you've thought of others. God bless.
DeleteContinuing ...
ReplyDeleteJackson, Kansas City, Chicago, San Antonio Rose, Meet Me In Montana
Welcome back, Mevely. Good choices. How about the song by The Eagles mentioned on your Blog post? Any others?
DeleteGod bless you.
All My Exes Live in Texas, That's Why I Live in Tennessee; Luckenback, Texas; Walkin' to New Orleans; Philadelphia (Neil Young); Jackson (Johnny and June Carter Cash)
ReplyDeleteOh you chose one of my favourites, Mimi. Luckenback Texas by Waylon Jennings. Many thanx. Any more?
DeleteGod bless you.
Love it.
