Mary's Legacy
When Mary was visited by the Angel Gabriel all those years ago, times were very different.
It would have been a great scandal for an un-married woman to become pregnant. It was even more outrageous to claim He is the Son of God. That would have been blasphemy surely!
Yet despite her fears of shame, rejection and ridicule, not to mention fear for her own safety, Mary trusted God and said "Yes".
She agreed to be the Mother of Jesus.
So, what is her legacy to us?
Obedience and trust.
Obedience and trust in God despite what must have been a very dangerous situation for her, and her family.
Are we that obedient and trusting when God speaks to us?

...part of the Christmas miracle.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, Tom.
DeleteGod bless always.
Mary seems to get a bad rap, but where would we be without her?!?!
ReplyDeleteAmen, Brian. what faith and trust she had.
DeleteGod bless.
Mary knew that God had her back and would protect her and her unborn child.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless Victor 🎄
You are right, Jan. She had great faith and trusted God right away.
DeleteGod bless you, Jan.
Mary had trust, faith and lots of love for God. The school I went to as a kid was St. Mary's so we heard lots of stories about her.
ReplyDeleteIn our school we had a grotto in the garden like the one you see at Lourdes. It had roses planted all around and a stream of water flowing by.
DeleteGod bless Bill.
Dearest Victor,
ReplyDeleteLoved your video and was #247 viewing it.
We all would fall way short compared to Mary the most powerful woman in the World: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2015/12/mary-most-powerful-woman-in-world.html
At least, you and I dare to mention her!

Yes ... we would all fall far short compared to Our Lady.

AMEN 💝
DeleteThank you for posting one of my favorite songs! So appropriate for today, the Immaculate Conception.
ReplyDeleteIt is well sung by Father Francis. I spoke to him on the phone recently. Check out his website: click on his name above.
DeleteGod bless, Kathy.
Mary is a marvelous model for us all in how we should relate to God - obey and trust.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Victor!
Obey and trust. Are we really good at either of these? I falter so often.
DeleteGod bless, Martha.
I love Fr. Maple's rendition of this favorite. We were just discussing Mary at yesterday's Bible study. For instance, did she spend those months at Elizabeth's home for safety purposes? And where was Joseph during this period?
ReplyDeleteHers was a wonderful legacy!
Very good points, Mevely. In those days being pregnant and not married would have resulted in her being stoned. Remember the woman caught in adultery brought to Jesus?
DeleteMary probably went to Elizabeth for safety in another town where she was not known. Joseph probably stayed behind deciding what he should do.
What faith they both had! These days any man whose girl-friend told him she was pregnant would run a mile in the opposite direction.
God bless, Mevely.
Mary said yes and trusted God!
ReplyDeleteJoseph was a good man to stand by her and trust God too.
I agree, Happyone. What courage.
DeleteGod bless always.
"Trust and obey
ReplyDeleteFor there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey."
~ from the hymn.
Amen.
DeleteGod bless, Mimi
