It always bothered me as well. Sure I can Imagine all of these things, but not at the same time! I adtually wrote about this back in May 2019 on my own blog, but Manny says it way better. I might go and post a link.
ReplyDeleteThank you Charlotte. As Manny said, this song has become an anthem for atheists. His article puts it better than me.
DeleteGod bless you and yours.
...history is littered with examples of religion not bringing forth peace. Where would you like to start, how about Ireland?
ReplyDeleteI beg to differ, Tom. It is not religion, but the way people use religion for their own end that has been an obstacle to peace.
DeleteThe Christian religion teaches love, forgiveness, and peace. But many don't abide by that.
God bless.
...it sounds like many believers aren't really believers.
DeleteAmen.
DeleteThank you, Victor, for introducing us to Manny!
ReplyDeleteAs I just told him, prior to hearing Fr. Francis' version I suspected I was the only person who found the original distasteful.
Thank you Mevely. No, you were never the only person to dislike this song. Lennon turned me OFF the Beatles after this.
DeleteGod bless always, my friend.
I love how Fr. Francis redeemed the lyrics of the original by Lennon. I've always disliked this song before now, so my heart has now been changed because of the holy lyrics.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you, Martha. You are/were not alone in disliking the original lyrics. They were well intentioned but ill-advised. I guess Lennon, (and the Beatles), longed for some peace in the world; (All we are saying ... is give peace a chance); but the Imagine lyrics blame religion for all the world's ills.
DeleteGod bless you, Martha.
Oh thank you Victor, and thank you all for your kind comments. I will have to post more of Fr. Francis's video clips. When I do, I'll come here and let you know.
ReplyDeleteYes please do come and tell us, Manny. And visit us more often here; we'd like your input to Christian articles.
DeleteThanx and God bless always.
That's an excellent rewrite Fr. Francis did!
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is. Thank you, Mimi. God bless.
