When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here! See the place where they put Him. But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him, just as He told you.’ ”Mark 16:5-7
This passage is described in all four Gospels. Mark specifically said, "go tell His disciples and Peter ..."
Why did he single out Peter in this way? No such emphasis in the other Gospels. Look them up.
Let's now consider this.
"Jesus answered (Thomas), 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' " John 14:6
This is one of the most controversial and unpalatable quotation of Jesus.
You have to make up your mind. Is Jesus a liar, or is John 14:6 true?
Remember that just before the Crucifixion Peter had denied Christ three times. Basically, he put himself away from the path to God. Jesus had said so clearly in John 14:6.
Peter must have been in total despair. It is no wonder he did not follow Judas' example and hanged himself.
That is probably why the "young man dressed in a white robe", (an angel), specifically said go to Peter. To reassure the man that he is forgiven.
And so are we forgiven, no matter what we have done, if we confess and repent genuinely.
...forgiveness is an important part of life.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Tom. God bless.
DeleteAmen, Victor! Peter must have been in the depths of despair, but this message would have given him renewed hope and trust in his Savior and Lord. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThat's true, Martha. When Peter heard that the angel had specifically mentioned him by name he must have been very reassured and relieved that he had been forgiven.
DeleteGod bless you my friend.
I thank God every day for forgiveness. It is nothing to be taken lightly.
ReplyDeleteAmen Barbara. You are so right.
DeleteGod bless.
I can't begin to grasp the level of despair I'd feel, were it not for His forgiveness. Humbling!
ReplyDeleteI guess that's the despair Peter was in when he denied Christ three times.
DeleteGod bless you, Mevely.
Amen! This past Resurrection Sunday, our pastor talked about some of the things Jesus might have been thinking as he came alive in that tomb. One of them might have been something to the effect that He wanted to go to His disciples, and Peter, that big goofball with a heart of gold, I have to go tell him it's all right, I'm back, it worked, everything is all right.
ReplyDeleteGood point, Mimi. Jesus must have known how Peter felt at the time.
DeleteGod bless you and yours.
Good words my friend. A lot must have been on Peter's mind for sure. But He Knows how to make things right. I must keep telling myownself that very thing..;.
ReplyDeleteLove you my brother! Thanks so much fo r the prayers...
Yes, we must continually say to ourselves that God will ensure all is right and well. That's true faith.
DeletePraying for you all, Jack and Sherry. God bless.
Especially Peter...and Sandi...and Victor...and you. 🙂
ReplyDeleteHow true, Sandi. You are right, we are all forgiven.
DeleteGod bless you my friend.
