Jigsaw puzzles

In my spare time I like to do jigsaw puzzles. It's a great pastime trying to figure out where all the pieces go to complete the picture on the box cover.

As an additional challenge, I like to do jigsaw puzzles in total darkness. I just feel the shape of the pieces and put them together to make up the picture. When I switch the lights on I have there a masterpiece Picasso or Salvador Dalí would be proud of.

I do hate it though when I leave a puzzle half-done and someone else comes in and puts some pieces in their proper place. Why can't they do their own puzzles? It's like people finishing your own sentences for you when you speak.

I remember the very first puzzle I bought. It was a one-piece puzzle. You opened the box and there was a one-piece that looked exactly like the picture on the cover. Basically, it was a picture in a box. Not much skill needed but it was a start. I bought a couple of dozens of such puzzles until I got the hang of it.

Then I progressed to a two-pieces puzzle. I opened the box, took out a piece and put it on the table. I was distracted by the phone ringing. When I got back someone had taken the second piece out and completed the puzzle for me. I was really disappointed. I put both pieces back in the box. Shuffled them a few times and then started the puzzle again by taking one piece out and placing it on the table.

I was distracted by the phone again. This time I took the box with the other piece with me to stop anyone completing the puzzle for me.

I have now progressed to many pieces puzzles. One hundred and even five hundred pieces.

Life can be a bit like a jigsaw puzzle, you know.

Full of doubts, fears, frustrations and confusions … as well as good times too.

If we were to put God right in the middle of our life our jigsaw puzzle would be complete. And what a wonderful picture it would make!

    1. Yes I did, Tom. The blood rushed to my head and I fell off the chair injuring my back and neck.

      God bless you always.

  3. Dearest Victor,
Never really got the urge for buying or starting a puzzle.
Guess our type of work was a constant puzzle of many pieces and solving them for others.
But it sure can be great therapy for lots of people, for keeping their mind focused on something pretty and constructive instead of sinking into depression or whatever negative thoughts.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Yes, Mariette, life can be quite a puzzle for many people. We all need patience and often many skills to solve what the world puts in our way.

      God bless.

    1. We all need God in our lives, Jack. No life is complete without Him.

The two piece puzzle was a little more complicated than the one piece one. But I managed it after ten minutes or so.

      God bless you and Sherry.

  7. Not a fan of jig-saw puzzles, but I love this conclusion! After all, God is the only one who sees the whole picture.

  8. Amazing how hard we make it to do such a simple thing. Keep trying!

  9. As you know Ken and I do a lot of puzzles during the winter. We usually do 1000 piece ones. As I type this Ken is across the room buying 4 of them for this winter. :)

    1. It's quite an interesting pass-time. As long as other people do not try to complete your jigsaw puzzle.

      God bless, Happyone.

  10. My brother and niece like to do jigsaw puzzles, they like the 1000 and 1500 pieces ones. I like doing them, but don't have the patience or the space to be able to start one and leave it until I am ready to do more on it. I think my cat Lola would mess up any pieces I put together anyway, or she would knock a few loose ones off and lose them for me.

  11. I have a couple of large ones done by my brother, I liked them so much he framed them to hang on my walls.

    1. Jigsaws need a lot of patience and perseverance. When a piece does not fit anywhere I usually cut it to size with scissors to make it fit. When a piece goes missing, I use a piece from another jigsaw instead.

      God bless, River.
