Market Research

Most organisations do it. Market Research. It is their way of finding out what the public thinks of their products or services.

I can't afford to hire a Market Research firm to do this for me. So I decided to do it for myself. I wrote down a few questions on my note pad and went to our local market to do some Market Research.

I wanted to know what people thought about my books. Many and varied as they are. Check them out HERE.

Some of my books are FREE do you know! The Kindle ones are very good value too. Or you might prefer the paperbacks.

Anyway, I asked people in our local market and to my dismay no one knew who I was, or the fact that I write books, or that I have a Blog.

Only one person thought he recognised me. He said, "Hello, I thought you emigrated to Australia, or was it New Zealand? Good to see you. Tell me, was it you who went to Australia or was it your lady friend?"

I kept my cool and replied, "Can't you tell the difference?"

"Frankly no," he said, "although I heard that Australia is bigger! Anyway, since you're here, then it must be her who went to Australia ... or New Zealand. She left you has she? Don't blame her. You were always a grumpy old git."

"She is not in Australia ... or New Zealand either, she is at home. My home ... our home. She has not left me. We are happy together." I said gritting my teeth.

"Oh pity ..." he said, "that means I got you and your lady friend mixed with someone else!"

"Do you know who I am?" I asked politely in exasperation.

"Yeah sure ..." he said, "you used to sell rotten vegetables from a stall here in the market."

I should point out that I never sold vegetables, rotten or otherwise, at any market place.

I nearly grabbed him by the lapels to shake him out of his misconception, but there was a policeman nearby. So I smiled and left.

And there you have it. My first Market Research was a failure.

How about you? What writings on this Blog do you like best? Humourous stories of dubious veracity, or Christian articles, or anything else? What sort of mix do you like in my articles? More of some genre and less of another?

How about my books? What do you think? Good, bad, indifferent?

Some of you, dear friends, have kindly left positive Customer Reviews on AMAZON about my books. To you and all my loyal supporters and readers - a BIG thank you.

God bless.

    1. Thanx Happyone. One can't be sure whether I'm being predictable, or whether what I write does not appeal to my readers. So I check every now and then as part of my market research.

      God bless you.

  5. When you write on your blog you offer the readers a different perspective on the views of Christianity. The people who share your views already have an understanding and those who don't you offer a different way to understand mixed with simple explanations and humour. Humour connects people maybe not everyone but some and you're good at that. I know it's hard to do a blog everyday because I try to do it and many times I think about quiting and don't because I think people like seeing my tiny piece of the world. There are many people who like reading your blog too. Write on, my friend!
    Have a wonderful weekend, Victor.

    1. Thans Bill. Yes, mine is mainly a Christian blog. That's what it was when I started it some 10 years ago. I try to blend in some humour to make some difficult Christian mysteries and teachings easier to understand. As you say, it is difficult keeping a daily blog. I feel it's important to keep continuity.

I like your blog, Bill. You have a way of recording history in pictures. Many of the scenes you photo will have changed in years to come.

Best wishes and God bless always.

    1. Thanx Susan. I do try as best I can to have a different theme or subject every day. A Christian article, a humourous story, a video or a song. I guess it's how my mind works. I have a very short attention ...

      God bless.

  7. I, too, love the way in which you mix up the hilarious with the spiritual. Fr. Ignatius is always a favorite. In the end, I'd have to go for those Christianity-based lessons; the way in which you gently prompt me to self-examination.

    1. Thank you, Mevely. To be honest, I enjoy the Christian articles the best. I guess I write them to explain to myself the mysteries of our faith. I'll also try some more Fr Ignatius stories.

      God bless you, my friend.

  8. I think the mix is just about right. The humor and the devotional message are both integral to your personality. I think whatever you are doing, it works.

By the way. On my blog I wrote up an essay on my personal experience with this coronavirus situation. You might find it interesting. It's been a heck of three months.

    2. You’re welcome and thanks for your comment at my post. Yes, the whole virus thing has been very sad, especially in my part of the country. Perhaps less so elsewhere. I’ll try to stop by more often. It’s kind of tough to find the time lately.

  9. The mix of humor and spiritual and life as a Christian are all living life out loud. I like that I never know what I will find here. You are my treasure hunt, as most of my other blog friends are predictable. Your cartoons and art work and love of the human body make me chuckle from time to time, but you are like a magnet.... I keep being drawn back. Sorry to say, I haven't read any of your books, but am very involved in my own journaling that is not my blog but my personal journals for my legacy for my family when I'm gone. Also do a lot of Bible Study and care for my dearest...perhaps I will get around to reading some of your books, but in the meantime I hope you will just be OK with me coming an enjoying your blog. You are probably one of the most interesting blog friends I've ever had. Blessings!

  10. Hello Victor.
I have to say I do not visit your blog every day, but when I do I always like the mix of posts you put up. Sometimes it's not easy to do this … but you do seem to do this well.

    All the best Jan
