These lips are made for talkin'
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these lips are gonna talk all about youThoughtless comments. Careless whispers. Repeated gossip. The meaningful "tut ... tut ..." said innocently yet hiding many a hurt.
How wounding are those seemingly blameless lips when they utter words without thinking; or perhaps maliciously intentionally so.
Whether said in jest, whether said in all seriousness, or whether said deliberately, under oath even, those lips can do more harm than the sharpest sword.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour
Our pastor addressed this very topic in Sunday's sermon! I like the meme she cited in jest: "Some things are better left unsaid. Which I generally realize right after I have said them."
ReplyDeletePS - Move over Nancy Sinatra; I've got George Michael crooning in my other ear. 😉
Yes Mevely. Some things are best left unsaid. Your pastor is so right.
DeleteGod bless always.
...just like these boots are made for walking?
ReplyDeletePrecisely so, Tom.
DeleteGod bless.
Words can leave scars on our hearts, Victor. I fear most of us have so many scars. What is even worse is the wounds our words have inflicted. Think before you speak!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, My Friend!
We often hurt others by what we say without even meaning to do so.
DeleteGod bless, Lulu.
My mother always told me that if I couldn't say something nice about someone, I should say nothing at all. Good advice!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Victor!
(Oh, and I love the parody of "These Boots Were Made for Walkin'")
Thank you Martha. Your Mom was indeed so wise.
DeleteI liked that song!
God bless.
Amen to Myra. I wonder if Priests ever quote scripture 'wrong', our pastor has on occasion and it is hard for someone NOT to mention it to 'others' and not the pastor... OUCH
ReplyDeleteAnyway Very good post, but I am rolling the 'boots walking' over and over in my head. LOL
Love from here and THANKS again, we definitely NEED reminders in this life.
Sherry & jack sitting here watching it rain...
I guess some priests do get things wrong sometimes. I knew a priest whose sermons sent me to sleep. I never had the courage to tell him so.
DeleteIt's been such a hot day here, Jack. Especially working in the garden.
God bless you and Sherry.
Dearest Victor,
ReplyDeleteOh so true! It is an ancient sin that will never become extinct I'm afraid!
Hugs,
Mariette
Good point, Mariette. A terrible sin indeed.
DeleteGod bless you.
💯
DeleteI dislike gossip in all forms. Put 20 people in a row tell the first one a line or two about someone and send it down the line. A strange and dangerous thing happens to the story when the last person receives it. It almost changes to an entirely different version of the first one. Try it, it is most interesting. What happened to “do unto to others as you we have them do to you?” Take care and blessings, Victor
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how a story changes, and is embellished, as it is passed on from one person to another. And the hurt it causes the person talked about can be really damaging. Thank you Nells for your observation.
DeleteGod bless always.
So much hurt can come from what people say!!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed Happyone.
DeleteGod bless.
James wrote accurately when he talked about the tongue and how it can cause so much damage.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Mimi.
DeleteGod bless.
Oh my goodness, I have this on my mind so many times when I her chatter. I told you I was raised up in the Catholic church and my dad had a great love for the book of James. Everything I read in that book I Learned from my father when I was a young child. James really had a handle on the tongue and how much trouble it can get us into or give us. Wonderful post. Thank you and I hope your weekend is blessed and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tata. Yes, we can learn so much from James and the other Bible writers. Sad how muich hurt we can cause through gossip.
DeleteBest wishes. God bless always.
My um was fond of saying "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" which is why I keep my mouth shut a lot of the time. but truthfully, my mum loved to gossip with the neighbours and hear about all the goings on that went on. she could talk the ears off a dead man. Whenever she moved to a new town she knew all her neighbours within a day and the rest of the town in a week.
ReplyDelete"um"? That's 'mum' (*~*)
ReplyDeleteYour mum sounds like quite a character. She was right, of course, about saying something nice.
DeleteGod bless you and yours, River.
