It started that way ...

It all started back in 2007. I just had a thought whilst walking in our local park. I was thinking about the state of the world back then; with people becoming more self-centred and society becoming more secular. And Christianity seemed to be in retreat.

I wondered, what if I saw Jesus in this very park. What would I do then? Would I tell anyone about it? Would they believe me or would they think I was losing my mind? Would it be safer to keep quiet about it and not tell anyone?

I remembered the story of the vision of the Virgin Mary at Lourdes. Also at Fatima. Were those people believed back then? Would they be believed now? In 2007?

So I wrote my first book "VISIONS". It was my first attempt at writing. Sure I had written many business reports in my time working in London. But this was different. This was not a report based on research and facts and figures. This was a work of fiction hopefully drawing its readers to undergo an examination of conscience as to what they truly believed and why.

It took me about a year to write. It was difficult. Little did I guess that now, so many years later, I would have written 38 books.

"VISIONS" tells the story of three children who see Jesus in the park on their way to church. He gives them a message for their priest. They eagerly rush to church to tell the priest and very soon the news spreads fast throughout town.

People react differently and not all in a positive way. Some people do not believe and accuse the children of lying to attract attention. They verbally abuse the children and their parents. Their parents' homes are pelted with eggs and slogans painted on them. The parents suffer prejudice at work.

The congregation want a statement from the Church to explain the situation. The priest is unsure of what to say, especially since the Bishop wants the story hushed up so as not to attract attention to the Church.

The story develops with various people taking entrenched positions and believing what they want to believe and using various methods to get others to their points of view. Whilst the Church seems to lack leadership at a time its followers need it most.

And you, the reader, are challenged to ask yourself how you would react in such a situation. Would you believe your own children that they actually saw Jesus? Would you stop them talking about it, or would you stand by them against all criticism? How strong is your faith? As much as half a mustard seed?

  1. Dearest Victor,
A HUGE challenge for this time and age!
It would be great if all people do some serious soul searching about their faith.
Both of us were shocked to learn about the Church where Pieter got baptized, dating from the 12th Century and being enlarged and changed over the ages, is being closed.
The Bishop of all people, let it go... so now it will function as a market and such and still people can get married there.
    One really wonders...!
People need to do some soul searching and start looking at the present time world's Faith; from afar. Really trying to get a clear picture. All the Evil going on might be the result of this... We (most people) left the Church and their Faith and opened wide the doors for Satan to enter in our lives in many forms.
Faith and High Morals still go hand in hand and we better ask ourselves WHERE do we stand.
You are a great writer and daring to put into words what so many people need desperately before it will be too late.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Hi Mariette,

It is very sad that over here too churches are being closed and turned into nightclubs and dance ballrooms. Some are turning to restaurants and even luxury homes. A lot of small churches are being joined together. We have two churches here about two miles apart. They are still open but only one priest travelling backwards and forwards to celebrate Mass and cater for both communities.

Also, most churches are locked when not in use because of vandalism and robberies. You can't just go to church any time to pray. And the devil is laughing.

      God bless.

  2. The parable of the mustard seed also describes how God's Kingdom grows in the life of each believer..
When a person puts his trust in Jesus, the Holy
    Spirit comes to live within..
This is similar to the mustard seed being planted
    in the ground..
No one can see it from the outside, but it is within the believe..

In the Gospel of Matthew the parable is as follows..
The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed,
which a man took, and sowed in his field; which indeed
is smaller than all seeds but when it is grown, it is
greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the
birds of the air come and lodge in its branches..Amen..!

AND! Yes! If my daughter came to me, and said she had
seen Jesus...I would believe her..! "Nuff Said"..

  3. ...I'm convinced that many "Christians" who view Jesus as a blue eyed blond would never recognize Jesus if they met him in a park.

  4. In today's world I'm afraid that is someone mentioned they saw Jesus, they would be laughed at and accused of fake news. I would believe my daughter if she came home and told me she saw Jesus. The people who attack such beliefs are not true believers.

  6. If my children came to me and said they'd seen Jesus, i'd ask what He said. If it fits with what the Scripture teaches, then certainly i'd believe them. If it did not, i would wonder if they'd seen a false angel trying to deceive them.

    1. I understand what you are saying, Mimi. I will not reveal here what the message from Jesus to the priest was, because it is central to the story.

      God bless.

  7. I would be inclined to believe my children, but if the story caused them trouble at school and in the streets I would ask the not to talk about it. I would think that Bishop would be pleased to have so much attention focused on the church, not wanting to hush it up instead.

    1. Even if what the children are saying is true and genuine, you would ask them to keep quiet about it to avoid trouble? This matter is central to the plot of this story; and indeed the bishop's and other peoples' reactions.

      God bless, River.
