SpaceTime

Today we shall discuss SpaceTime. An easy subject to understand if explained by me rather than Einstein.

The Earth is spinning round itself as well as going round the sun in about a year or so. It is moving through "Space".

Let us say that on 1 January 2010 the Earth was at this particular point in space. We can pinpoint the exact place the Earth was on that day. We will call this Location 1 (L1). And we will call 1 January 2010 Time 1 (T1).

So on 1 January 2010 the Earth was at L1T1

Now on 1 January 2022 (12 years later) the Earth was at a point in space. It may or may not be the exact location as before. Let's say it was the exact same location. So we can logically call this Location L2 which is exactly like L1.

L2 = L1.

However, even if L2 = L1, because of the passage of years the time point on the calendar has changed. 1 January 2022 is now T2. So we are now at L1T2 which is different to what is was before L1T1.

So what we are saying is that even though the Earth could get back to the same point in space in the future; because time is always moving the Earth can never be in the same point in SpaceTime as before.

That is, it can never be in L1T1 again. Even if it manages to be in the same spot in space (L1) it will never ever be in the same point in time. Time has moved on. It has gone for ever. Time will be T2, T3, T4 and so on.

And that's what we mean by SpaceTime. Various points in space at a particular point in time.

Now here's the theory by some clever scientists.

They say because the Earth, (and you), have moved on it does not mean the previous points in SpaceTime have vanished. They are still there but unseen by you.

For example: On 1 January 2010 you were at home enjoying New Year's Day. And we called that L1T1.

Today, at this time you are somewhere else. Hopefully reading this post, otherwise I'm talking to myself here!!!

Now scientists say you can (theoretically) travel back to L1T1 and see yourself enjoying New Year's Day. It's called time travel. They claim L1T1 still exists and has not gone away with the passage of time.

Many years ago there were a number of Lyons Tea Houses in street corners in London. People used to go there and enjoy a pot of tea and scones with clotted cream and jam.

I went to London recently. There were no Lyons Tea Houses there. Exactly the same locations as before, but a different point in time.

So I went to the pub and had a Guinness.

  1. It's no secret..'I have the IQ of a
'rockinh horse'! :). HeHe! I lost the
    plot after T2 T3 T4..
Think l'll go back and read yesterdays
    post..!

And yes! Lyons flagships shops were the
Corner Houses situated on or near the
corners of Coventry Street, the Strand
and Tottenham Court Road in London...
They were started in 1894 and remained
    until 1977...When they ALL closed..
They were gigantic places with food
being served on four or five floors...!
Love those disappearing cakes..? It's Scone!

    1. It's easy, Willie.

L1, L2, L3 and so on are different locations in space where the Earth is as it moves. T1, T2 and so on are different times which changes every minute, hour and so on. Space travel means going back to an old location in time.

I'm going back to the kitchen for another cup of coffee.

      God bless.

  2. ...this is a subject that has never crossed my mind and I've never had scones with clotted cream and jam. What on earth is clotted cream?

    1. Clotted cream is a thick cream made by heating full-cream cow's milk using steam or a water bath and then leaving it in shallow pans to cool slowly.

Famous in Devon and Cornwall in England where they serve clotted cream and jam scones. There's an ever ending debate on how to do this. You cut the scone into two halves. You put some cream on the scone, then some jam and then you put the other half of the scone on top. Some argue that you should put the jam on first and then the cream. Not sure which is best. Cream first or jam first?

It's as easy as pouring a cup of tea. Is it milk first and then tea? Or the other way round?

We Brits are very precise about these things and spend hours debating them. Another thing ... do you cut the crust off when making cheese and cucumber sandwiches or not? Do you hold your little finger out when picking up a cup of tea? Or is it better to just use a mug? Should tea be served in porcelain cups or any cup will do? What should be the precise temperature of the water when brewing tea?

These and many other questions will be asked in Britain for many years into eternity.

      God bless, Tom.

    2. Devon and Cornwall..I live in the
      next county up..Dorset! God's own
      County..
What is a Dorset cream tea?
While there might be cream, jam and scones
present with an Afternoon Tea, this consists
of a multi tiered tray that includes finger
sandwiches, cakes and pasties alongside the
tea (sometimes there is alcohol involved too!)..
A Cream Tea is just that, it is just a pot of
tea, with some scones, some cream and some jam..!
The cream and the jam..you spead on to you 'own'
liking..as you do with the milk or the tea....
I run my life..NOT some old wives tales...! :)

  5. Sorry I didn't get a chance to figure the formula L2 = L1. Since I I wasn't at this location, I tried to get here but kept spinning or something. Anyway come around some time.
    Sherry & jack spaced out!

    1. The thing is, scientists believe that a moment in space and time still exists and we can theoretically go back to such a place. I don't believe it. I've just been to the kitchen to find that my pizza is burnt in the oven. I doubt I could go back a little earlier just before it got burnt and save it.

God bless, Jack and Sherry. Don't go back for burnt pizza. It's not worth it.

  7. I'm soooo confused! Please, just pass the scones and pour me a glass of vino.

PS - After reading your definition of clotted cream, I'm putting that on my Bucket List!

    1. I was confused too when I first studied this, Mevely. Some scientists believe that certain points in time and space remain even after the earth has moved in its orbit round the sun and time has passed. Thus, they believe we can re-visit those points and re-live (as observers) what happened then.

      I think it's nonsense.

      God bless you.

    1. It is confusing. Scientists believe that if you can pin-point the exact PLACE Earth was at a particular TIME (SpaceTime) in the past; then you can travel back to that particular SpaceTime point and see what happened then as an observer.

      I don't believe it.

      God bless, Happyone.

    1. Scientists can confuse us. See my response to Happyone above. It is believed that past events are not erased with the passage of time. They are still there to be visited by us and "re-lived" but just as observers. So you can choose a time in history and go there and see it.

I'd rather watch it on TV with a pizza and a Guinness.

      God bless, Linda.

  10. If we could go back and observe, it could certainly solve some mysteries of the past. Of course, while observing, would the person who went back in time be seen and heard, and somehow be able to change the past? It's all very fascinating.

    1. You are right, Mimi. It is fascinating especially with the possibility of changing the past. That is why I do not believe it is possible and scientists have got this wrong - including Einstein if he ever said it. There was someone called Einstein in school with me years ago. Quentin Einstein he was called. He wore glasses and always read comic books. I wonder if he is the Einstein who became famous.

      God bless.

  12. I've just read above here, about cutting the scone in half, putting on jam, then cream, then putting the top half of the scone on top of that.
NO NO NO! put jam them cream on one half AND jam then cream on the other half. Eat both halves separately for even more yum.
