If your body is a temple, is it an ancient monument like the Colosseum, the Acropolis and such other structures, or is it a modern building with the latest features like air-conditioning, central-heating, elevators, escalators and other up-to-date appliances?
In what shape is your body?
There are some electronic gadgets you wear on your wrist which tell you about the state of your body. Whether you are dead or alive, whether you are conscious or not, whether you spent a lot of money on something you don't need, and whether you're about to be run over by a vehicle because you are looking at your watch rather than where you're going in the street.
These gadgets can also tell you how many steps and miles or kilometres you have walked, how many calories you have burnt, your heart beat, pulse, oxygen consumption, menstrual cycle, sleep patterns, weather, temperature, humidity, gas consumption and retention, and whether you're about to break wind thus polluting the atmosphere and harming the environment and by how much.
What is the use of such a gadget to someone who has just had a large pizza and many pints of beer followed by half-a-dozen doughnuts whilst watching TV? You might as well teach your dog to use the treadmill instead of you, the benefit you'll get from such a wrist watch!
When I was young, walking was the "in" thing. My parents often made me walk the plank. We did not have a dog!
But I digress. Which will make my walk even longer.
Why do people use such devices about health monitoring? Surely if the gadget tells you you have high blood pressure all that will do is raise your blood pressure even more by worrying about it. At least that's what my nurse told me when she checked my blood pressure and it was higher than the building we were in. Mind you ... she is young and beautiful.
WARNING: This last comment is sexist!
Anyway ... lets get to the point.
You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own.
1 Corinthians 6:19
Hi Victor, I smile at the words you have written as far as the words 'Keep young, beautiful', and would say 'If you want to be loved, act on the latter words you have written.; God bless.
ReplyDeleteI use humour to attract people to the pertinent message.
DeleteGod bless, Brenda.
...physically my temple is in need of repairs..
ReplyDeleteFallen arches?
DeleteGod bless, Tom.
"Retention"? lololol! Thus far, I've resisted getting one of those computer-on-the-wrist contraptions. No matter how attractive the individual or how smartly dressed they are, I'm reminded of that nerdy cartoon character, Sherman (from Mr. Peabody). In my case, perhaps ignorance is bliss. I trust God to handle the rest.
ReplyDeleteGood attitude, Mevely. Ignorance, and trust in the Lord, are bliss. We can spend a lifetime worrying about our health that we forget to live. There are a lot of contraptions and diagnostic tools and systems advertised on TV here these days. People can get worried about what they might have and the slightest twinge becomes a panic inducing situation.
DeleteI remember Quentin, an old friend of mine. He was such a hypochondriac that when he died at the age of 93 they buried him next to a doctor just in case.
God bless, Mevely.
I'm in pretty good shape, Victor, but I could certainly work harder at it. We are God's temple after all!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
My shape is like a square, although after a few drinks I lean sideways like a parallelogram.
DeleteAs you say, Martha, our souls are God's temple.
God bless.
I don't need another gadget to tell me what's wrong, I already have an idea. Live life to the fullest and God will take carre of the rest.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Bill. Live life to the full and trust God.
DeleteGod bless you, my friend.
That's what i try to remember when i'm tempted to overeat or not exercise, i want to take care of this temple.
ReplyDeleteOn a funny note, my Sweetie has a comic attached to the refrigerator with a magnet which shows Maxine eating popcorn and saying, "My body is a temple where junk food goes to worship."
Funny sentiment, but not how i want to take care of myself.
That's a great fridge magnet. It's good not to take ourselves seriously at times. Keep smiling, Mimi.
DeleteGod bless you and your family.
thecontemplativecat here. My daughter Mary was playing back to Switzerland and didn't feel right. The watch indicated something about B/P elevated heart rate. Luckily, she was fine, since she was flying back to Switz.
ReplyDeleteFlying does make many people nervous, Susan.
DeleteGod bless always.
