What's this again Michelangelo?

Once again, I find myself writing a critique of one of Michelangelo's works. This marble statue represents the Biblical character David; you know the one? The boy who went to fight and killed the giant Goliath.

For a start, I put it to you that this is totally inaccurate and Michelangelo must have been on the vino again when he sculpted it. David definetly did not go out fighting Goliath in the nude. Had he done so the crowd would have taken many photos with their cell-phones and posted them on social media. So, grow up Michelangelo and enough of all these nudes!

Now I am sure that as you look, or marvel, at this marble masterpiece of the Renaissance period your eyes will immediately focus, as did mine, on one focal point.

What exactly is David carrying on his shoulder? I looked at the statue from every angle eyes fixed at the left hand, (most of the time), and I could not work out what he is holding. Suggestions please!

Apparently the statue was created between 1501 and 1504. Can you imagine? Three years for a model to stand naked in the great outdoors with no clothes on? He was obviously freezing cold when the work was eventually completed ... with all that marble all over the place.

  1. Do you KNOW had difficult it is to get that well chiseled physique? HOURS in the gym! As for what he is holding--I believe it might be his loin cloth!

    1. If I had a physique like his I'd be very careful of someone with a chisel near me, Lulu.

Possibly a loin cloth ... I thought it was a handkerchief to wipe away the sweat of fear.

      God bless.

Only God could tell you the truth and the best "I" could do was to ask sinner vic who still believes that he's a god and some of his cells asked "ONE" of David's Cells... who was disgusted, "I" mean, David's cells discussed "IT" with Michelangelo's DNA and wouldn't YA know "IT"... sinner vic again got an answer to this problem also... sinner vic said that being nude was the way Michelangelo's cells felt when the prophet gave King David a venom talking for having seduced his best soldier's beautiful wife... it is so easy to mistake that snake in the grass for a loin cloth on his shoulder... others might even imagine that David is eating Eve's Apple... Saints and God's Angels all know that what David did was a 'lived' back word worldly moment if YA get his drift?... truth is that King David was tested by YA know Who... let's just say that the original snake from paradise did a good JOB, "I" mean job of hiding himself again from the root to the top... that's sinner vic's story and he's sticking to "IT".

Go figure? Let's just say that David was hung from the beginning but then again was he really? LOL :)

    God Bless

  4. I think it's a sling shot too. But where Michelangelo really was inaccurate is that David was Jewish and so would have been circumcised. But I bet no one looks at his private parts. Gotcha. I bet you just did. :)
