What's this Michelangelo?

This Michelangelo painting from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel is entitled The Creation of the Sun, Moon and Plants.

Now, I am not much of an art expert, but I can see clearly that the big orange circle is meant to be the sun, and the man exposing himself on the left is the moon, and the bit of green in the left corner are the plants. So what is the white circle by God's left hand?

    1. I really don't know what Michelangelo was thinking about when he painted that. Those who commissioned the painting should have taken the bottle of vino from him.

      God bless you Lulu.

  4. What's that by God's left hand? Must be the gas the man with the exposed bottom left as he passed by. God caught a whiff and then pointed to go, get out. LOL. :-P

    1. Hi Manny,

It's amazing how we take so much for granted when we look at paintings and sculptures by the "great artists". For years people have marvelled at the paintings in the Sistine Chapel.

I researched this one. The figure on the left is meant to be God leaving the scene, having created the sun and moon on the right. What possessed Michelangelo to paint God thus; and how come no one stopped him and asked him to repaint and repent!!!

I may start a series of posts about art, (just like my series on history - see tab at top "Giggles and Fun").

      God bless.

  5. Hi Victor! What do you think possessed Michelangelo to portray the moon this way? Oh my, how I laughed at your interpretation! I have no idea what God is pointing to. Hmmm. Maybe he is telling that guy to pull up his underwear, because here's the moon silly :)

    1. Hello Ceil,

It's amazing what one can discover when studying art. I shall post another art article soon. I researched this one. Apparently God on the right arrives on the scene and creates the sun and move. He leaves the scene on the left and creates the plants (Bottom left corner). As a painting ... OK. But why show God on the left like that? Why did no one stop Michelangelo and take his vino away?

      God bless.

Victor #1, I have not checked out your "Giggles and Fun" yet but I'm sure that you could write a Novel about these Spiritual Thoughts of Michelangelo painting... I enlarged your picture by clicking on it and now I can understand why someone once said that a picture says a thousand words... in this case mentally speaking, sinner vic is still writing in some of my so called seven per sent age "Jesus Cells"... we don't want to go there because at this moment, he's comparing the gas the man with the exposed bottom left as he passed by... long story short... the gas represents the faith of Christian Churches nowadays... the product left behind is what they believe really takes place with the changing of water and wine... go figure the countless stories "ONE" can tell while looking at a picture.

I hear YA folks! That's sinner vic for YA... LOL. :-P

    1. This painting is really odd, Mary. Especially since it was commissioned by the Church to be painted on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Both figures are meant to be God. One arriving on the scene and one leaving. How come no one asked Michelangelo to repaint it?

      God bless.

  11. Yeah, he is one gutsy painter, isn't he? I know very few painters who would presume to paint God's (AHEM!) back end.
