These boots are made for walking

What's all this about going out for a walk? What is the point, I tell you. Why not act civilised and stay at home and do something sensible. Like watching football on TV.

Ideally, I like to sit at the piano, with a glass of wine on the side, and perhaps a cigar or a pipe, and play some long forgotten tune from the past. Now that's romantic. And better than going out for another walk with the dog.

The problem with that scenario is that I don't smoke, and I don't drink wine, and I can't play the piano either. We don't even have a piano. We have a toy xylophone. It's out of tune since I accidentally stepped on it. We only bought it because it is in the book of alphabets under X. It was either buying a xylophone, or an X Ray machine.

By the way, it reminds me when I went to hospital for a check-up. They asked me to take all my clothes off and stand in front of this X Ray machine which took a photo from head to toe. Funny, I don't remember eating all those bones!

Anyway, I hate it when they say let's go for a walk.

Where to?

Oh ... just there and back?

Why?

No reason.

Well, I've just been there and back and beat you to it. Now leave me alone to watch the football.

But you'll get some fresh air.

I can always turn the fan on for that.

And you'll get some exercise. You need exercise.

I get all the exercise I need my pressing the buttons on the remote control.

At last, they went for a walk and left me in peace to watch the football. I got interrupted by a text message from a lady friend of mine.

I hate this new text speak, don't you? Shortened words like OMG, BTW and LOL. I thought LOL meant lots of love!

I texted her back, "Sorry to hear your mom has died. LOL"

She thinks I'm a heartless **** My family think I'm an idiot. And Heaven knows what you think.

Right now, I'll sit back and watch this video again and again ... that will be my exercise for the day.

  1. I don't go much for taking walks either. I'd rather go for a long bike ride. It gets me where I'm going faster and no one seems to bother me to do it with them. It used to be the other day around until I realized my wife was not going to join me. She would be the one who prefers to get her exercise with her fingers on the remote. LOL As for the song: sorry. I never liked it. She was good eye candy back then though.

    1. It's great to see you visiting here again, Bill. Thanx.

About cycling. The problem is I keep falling off. Sometimes to the left, and sometimes to the right. When I pedal fast to keep the bike moving, I hit a tree. It seems a pointless exercise that keeps getting me injured. Why don't they make cycles with those extra wheels at the back to keep them steady? Like children have.

As for the song; it was the only one I could find on You Tube to fit with the title of the article. I agree Nancy Sinatra's success was mostly due to her looks. I could have sang and danced like that in a leotard; but I doubt many would have enjoyed my video.

      God bless, Bill.

  2. Made me smile! I was picturing Bing Crosby at the piano!

    1. Hi Amelia. How great to see you visiting here again. Where have you been all this time.

I don't sing as well as Bing Crosby; but then, I don't play the piano either. Perhaps I'm good at telling jokes; a bit like Bob Hope.

      God bless.

  4. Oh darn! Here I was smiling imagining you at the keyboard with the goblet and pipe … then you had to go (pg. 3) and ruin it. *smile*
Back in the day, I sure enjoyed this song. Yet, like Linda (above) I've been making lots of excuses. Bleah …..

    1. Piano aside, I am not that bad on the harmonica, Mevely. As for walks, I'll admit I do a bit on the treadmill at home, next to the TV. Also the cycle next to the TV.

      God bless you.

    2. 'Treadmill-walking' seems to ME to be much more appropriate ... espcially during a 'pandemic', eh? (yeah. I'm Canadian.)

    3. Great to see you again, Suzanne. Thanx. Also, the advantage of a treadmill is that I have a glass of Guinness handy and the TV on.

      God bless you.

  5. When I got to the part where you say, "I hate this new text speak, don't you? Shortened words like OMG, BTW and LOL. I thought LOL meant lots of love! I texted her back, "Sorry to hear your mom has died. LOL", I cracked up. I have a guy friend who for the longest time thought I was saying, "Lots of love" to him all the time. When he found out I meant, "Laugh out Loud", he said, "Oh, I"m so glad to hear that, I never knew how to respond." He thought I was coming on to him. Oh, did we laugh. Thanks, Victor.

    1. That's the problem with new speak, Diane. It's a totally new language. Why can't people speak proper English like before auto-correct and all that?

      God bless.

  6. I really love walking, Victor, but with all the problems I've had with my hip recently, I haven't exercised as much as I should/could have. Now the weather is hot and muggy - another excuse not to walk! That will all be cleared up in a matter of weeks as we've ordered a home treadmill. Yep! We're quitting the gym, and going to work out at home. I think I'll do it more often!
Thanks for the chuckles and the memory, too.
    Blessings!

    1. The treadmill is useful if it is used at set times, like a routine. Otherwise, here we tend to use it as another place on which to hang our coats. The handle-bars of the cycle are also used for this purpose. Exercise is boring. I need an incentive. There's a limit to the amount of Guinness that serves as an incentive.

Another exercise I do is walk up and down, up and down, the same step for thirty times or so. Takes me ages to go up to the toilet.

      God bless, Martha.

  7. I love walking except when the rain is bucketing down. It gives me lots of time to think and photograph. It's funny, the last song I heard on the radio last night was "these boots are made for walking". It's been years since I heard it and today I get to see the video. :)

    1. It's quite a catchy tune, isn't it? I guess there are plenty of nice places to walk to where you live, Bill. Your photos are always wonderful.

      God bless.

  8. As far as i am concerned, exercise is punishment. And Grandpa used to think LOL was lots of love, too.

    1. It's this modern language, Mimi. Someone should write a dictionary with all these shorthand sayings.

  10. Well Victor...I hate to be the "Party Pooper", but I LOVE to walk...not the dog, put walk myself! When I was younger I was a jogger, and that can become addicting too. When Don was in Cardiac Rehab for 3 months, I took that time to walk the ground of the large hospital three times a week. It took about an hour, and it was totally refreshing...BUT I appreciate anyone who doesn't have that desire...To each their own! And I do like to watch Football!!!

    1. I suppose it's because here it is all urban surroundings with buildings mainly. There are parks nearby. But by the time I get there it is time to get back home again.

      God bless, Wanda.
