Should priests ...

Is it OK for priests to be jovial and sing pop and rock songs? Or should they always be serious, pious and prayerful? Can they not be both?

    1. Yes indeed, Tom. I have put a number of Fr Francis' songs here:

      God bless.

  2. We, as the body of Christ on earth, can sing what we want as long as it is not sinful. I listen to a young Irish man on You tube called Owen Mac, who sings the most beautiful songs about Jesus and Christianity that I have ever heard.

  3. If your singing brings joy to your life or others, as long as it's not sinful (praising man, foul language, questionable behavior) -- the world needs more joy. And if it's a priest singing all the better.

I remember Sister Wendy -- her views on classic art, might be something you wouldn't hang in the church, but it wasn't obscene art, and the way she shared the nuances of the art piece, the theme, the talent of the artist, etc -- all brought glory to God.

Andrea Bocelli -- his life story -- yet he sings in a way that honors The Creator, and the life giving essence he has seen.

Go check out "The Priests' on YouTube -- their version of 'Oh, Danny Boy' -- honors God and the culture and history of the Irish

    1. It's so nice to see you visiting here Steve. Thank you. Please call again.

Fr Francis has raised over £1m for charity through the years by singing in malls, shopping centres and bus stations.

Here are some more of his songs:

  5. Jovial, for sure! We, as Christians, should by default be the happiest people on earth.
    Blessings, Victor!

    1. What a wonderful song that is. We used to sing it round the camp fire years ago. Memories!

      God bless, Mevely.

  8. Dearest Victor.
Such songs are lovely and why would a priest not be allowed to sing?!
People should start clicking in reversed order so the two bottom ones will catch up...

Sometimes we do need to be serious and others jovial.

  10. Priests, and preachers, and rabbis, are people with their own personalities, that should be allowed to shine through in what they do and how they do it.
