The priest in church said, "Lettuce Pray!"
I looked round at the people around me. They all looked stern and serious and somewhat sad looking. Some looking down, some eyes closed, some staring ahead into space. I wondered what was going on in their minds.
No doubt God's computer was being overloaded with e-mails all asking for various favours all at once and all wanting to be served first. Some I would guess advising God on what He should do; and helping Him in solving their problems.
It's amazing how many people are willing to serve God in an advisory capacity.
Instead of praying, as the priest suggested, I recalled how attitudes and feelings have changed over the years. I remember years ago peoples' faces were brighter, more shiny, more positive, more hopeful perhaps. After Mass they used to congregate outside church in the car park and yakety yak yakety yak for at least half-an-hour until they dispersed and went home. This does not seem to happen any more.
Is it my imagination, or are Christians not so happy these days? Not just Christians, I guess it is people in general. I look at them in the streets, on the bus or train, at work even; and they all seem to be carrying a load on their backs that is grinding them down to oblivion.
Maybe the priest should have said, "Let us worry!" That would be more appropriate.
Worry is good for you.
Worry causes stress and illness and makes us unable to fight disease.
Worry is contagious and it makes others feel miserable and worrying too.
Worry gets us nowhere but it keeps our mind numb and unable to think straight.
Worry is an insult to God because it implies that we do not trust Him enough to help us, or care for us, or love us.
Worry is a sin!!!
I wonder how many people realise that? Worry is a sin!!!
So ... which one will it be? Lettuce Pray or Let us worry?
Yes, lettuce.
ReplyDeleteAmen.
DeleteGod bless.
-...every Thanksgiving in our community the various churches join together for a service. It is often held at the Catholic church. The priest once said, now for the time that you have been waiting for, "the sermon on the amount!"
ReplyDeleteClearly, he had a sense of humour for the occasion.
DeleteGod bless, Tom.
Worry IS a sin, Victor. Lettuce pray!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Not many realise that worrying (unduly) is a sin.
DeleteGod bless, Martha.
Years ago I remember someone telling me "Worry is a prayer to Satan." How sobering!
ReplyDeleteLettuce pray!
Indeed, worrying is Satan's most effective weapon against us.
DeleteGod bless you, Mevely.
Saying a prayer and trust in God, there is no reason to worry.
ReplyDeleteAmen Bill. Wise words.
DeleteGod bless.
I like lettuce.
ReplyDeleteYes, refreshing ... with cucumbers and tomatoes.
DeleteGod bless, Kathy.
Dearest Victor,
ReplyDeleteNo wonder the somber faces... You showed us here Iceberg Lettuce. Aha, why not the soft and much more tasty Boston lettuce. The ones my Dad grew some 40,000 of each spring and that I've packaged thousands upon thousands. Cold and making my hands almost freeze in early mornings around 5:00 AM.
Great word selection though. That is the 'stupid' English pronunciation often for things said one way and written another way. Therefore I far more like all the phonetic languages; makes more sense.
The Advisory board has been growing about 700% at e.g. schools and no doubt that God received an overload as well.
Let's thank God for remaining down to earth and trusting him no matter what.
Hugs,
Mariette
We have Boston lettuce here, but I don't think we call them by that name. They are loose leaved lettuces. I bet you must have loved them in salads when young ... after packaging them.
DeleteLet's thank an praise God always.
God bless, Mariette.
Still LOVE them, especially those soft buttery yellow leaves...! In Dutch we did not call them Boston lettuce. Same for Belgian endive...?! Dad grew thousands of them but they're not called that.
DeleteNames change when you travel but we know better Victor.
A smile, and also an AMEN. How very appropriate for today. YES WE WORRY too much and yep, I agree it is a SIN in caps!
ReplyDeleteGood stuff
Sherry & jack
Too often we worry too much without cause. A sin indeed.
DeleteGod bless you always, Jack and Sherry my friends.
😃
ReplyDeleteGod bless you, R.
DeleteYes, I agree, worrying is a sin. Instead of worry, we should be praying.
ReplyDeleteAmen Happyone.
DeleteGod bless.
I just KNOW, Victor, that next time I hear that spoken invitation to go into God's presence I'm going to be seeing that head of lettuce!
ReplyDeleteThat's good, Linda. It should remind us all to pray in faith and trust.
DeleteGod bless always.
I used to have a quote written down, about how worrying is a waste of time and there were other words that said why, but I can't find the note and can't remember it. I know a person who worries so much, even when things are going well he worries that things are going TOO well and something bad is bound to happen. it's exhausting to listen to him.
ReplyDeleteI agree that praying is a better option.
Wise words, River. Thank you so much.
DeleteGod bless you.
As i was reading this, the Crowder song "In the House" was playing.
ReplyDeleteBring your heartache
Bring your burden
You can lay them down at the door
Ain’t it so clear
You belong here
Step into the house of the Lord
Hallelujah!
Curious as a Cathy says her mom all ways told her life is hard, pray harder!
You've got it just right, no worries, just pray, it's the most important thing we can do.
So much time is wasted on needless worry, Mimi. Let us trust in God instead.
DeleteGod bless.
