There is a new modern trend not to send Christmas cards because they are not environmentally friendly and that we should all do our best to save the planet.
This leaves me both perplexed and somewhat vindicated; because for the past few years I have not been sending any Christmas or other greeting cards to anyone. My reasons had nothing to do with the hot air generated by the global warming debate, but more because I am mean by nature and resented having to spend so much on cards which are thrown in the re-cycling bin within days.
For a period I had considered sending people cards which I had received from family and friends in previous years, thus saving me having to buy new ones. But then the cost of postage went through the roof and I discovered another opportunity to save more money.
So I stopped sending cards altogether and decided on one group e-mail sent to everyone on my mailing list saving me the time and effort to type different greeting messages to everyone.
That's efficiency as well as preserving the planet for a few more years or so.
Oh ... another thing ... the money saved is grudgingly given to charity!
"I PRAY FOR ALL WHO COMMENT HERE."
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that, Victor.
I used to send a lot of cards. Now I send emails with festive stolen pictures I borrow from the Internet. It is easier. 😂
We never know who visits our Blogs without leaving a comment. So I pray for all visitors in the knowledge that God knows them all and their needs.
DeleteOver here cards and postage are becoming very expensive. I send everyone an e-mail these days.
God bless you, Sandi. Blessed Advent to you and yours.
...we send and love to receive Christmas cards and we send donations to the charities that we support.
ReplyDeleteCards are so expensive these day, postage too; but I agree it is nice to send and receive them.
DeleteGod bless, Tom.
For the past few years I've have good intentions to send out cards, but then time gets away from me and the task doesn't get done.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know the feeling exactly. They have to be sent by a certain date to reach in time.
DeleteGod bless, Kathy.
OK Scrooge.... ;-) As to recycling. Just consider the one you sent sent back to you with a Jolly, Merry Christmas fro us across the water.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the prayers and the smiles.
Sherry did fine on her procedures today!
Sherry & jack
Hooray and thank God for Sherry. Praise the Lord; I am so happy.
DeleteI normally send cards and on the back I write the years for a ten year period: 2021, 2022 etc ...
The recipients can keep the card and cross the dates at the back each year. Saves me lots of money.
God bless Jack and Sherry. Wishing you happiness always.
We create our own Christmas cards and send them to family and friends. Donations are sent to animal shelters that need money to feed the critters. I can't have pets but I can support them.
ReplyDeleteWell done for supporting animal shelters, Bill. Our dog comes from an animal shelter. He was rejected by other people beforehand. So we took him instead.
DeleteGod bless you and your family. Best wishes.
I wasn't going to send cards ... then I was ... then. Oh never mind, I cut my list in half and sent the rest to our local animal rescue. My enduring Christmas wish is that every good dog be adopted.
ReplyDeleteYou sent half of your list to the animal rescue? Will they send the cards out on your behalf? I'll try my local branch and see what they'll say.
DeleteKeep smiling, Mevely. God bless always my friend.
I enjoy sending out Christmas cards and receiving them.
ReplyDeleteDon't send out as many as I used to though.
I too don't send out as many as before ... in fact I send none.
DeleteGod bless, Happyone.
Dearest Victor,
ReplyDeleteAMEN to that for the very same reason and have to add that it is oh so hard for finding a TRUE RELIGIOUS CHRISTMAS CARD!
Sending anything abroad, we have given up for several years as it is through the roof and takes forever.
We only reply to a few that we receive nationally.
Like you, a friendly greeting or a warm phone call is much more valuable.
Hugs,
Mariette
You are right that it is difficult to find religious Christmas cards these days. Our church has some for sale after Mass each Sunday. We buy a few for close friends and family who live locally; and I deliver them by car when out shopping.
DeleteGod bless, Mariette.

DeleteCards are fun to send, at least, i think so. We use the cards received to decorate our house, we can't put up a tree the cats would destroy it.
ReplyDeleteI agree cards are fun, but very expensive.
DeleteGod bless, Mimi.
I still send cards, but only to immediate family, my sister because she rarely gets mail and doesn't have a telephone or computer, my brother and his wife, each of my children and adult grandchildren. I'm ashamed to say I actually forgot to send any to my interstate friends, it's too late now.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is nice to receive cards, if it were not for the cost involved. Especially when sending cards abroad.
DeleteGod bless, River.
I didn't send out cards for years because of the cost, Victor, but I do so now. Overseas postage would be pretty steep, though. Loved your online greeting, and wishing a Merry Christmas to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteHere too, overseas postal costs are too high. That's why I programmed the Christmas greeting on my website via the clickable link.
DeleteBest wishes always to you and your family, Martha.
God bless y'all.
We do send cards and also enjoy receiving them.
ReplyDeleteWe choose Charity Christmas Cards.
Postage is getting ever more expensive.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if a lower priced 'Christmas Mail Stamp' could be used.
All the best Jan
PS Many thanks for the click here links :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Now that is a brilliant idea. A special cheaper rate stamp for Christmas cards. It would attract more mail at this time of year.
DeleteThe click here links are liked by many readers, I find. Thanx Jan.
God bless you.
