How does it end?

I must admit I like movies. I don't go to the cinema very often these days. Mostly because I tend to cry at the cinema. Have you seen the price of tickets lately? And then the price of popcorn and drinks. Why don't they allow you to bring your own food at the cinema? They threw me out when I brought a few jars of pickled onions with me.

Anyway, I like movies and tend to watch them at home on TV. The problem is, as in the cinema, when Jennifer Aniston is on I have to leave my house until the film is finished.

There are plenty of movies on TV these days, and on many channels too. I like most of them, but not the violent ones, or the singing ones.

The thing is, I rarely get to see a film all the way through. Either I am interrupted by something else, or someone at home needs something, or the telephone rings, or someone calls unannounced and I have to pretend to welcome them or ... worst of all, I fall asleep half-way through the film. I usually end up seeing either the beginning or the ending of films, and sometimes just the middle bit because I did not switch the TV on in time and I got interrupted before the ending.

It is most annoying when I fall asleep during the film. It comes to something when sleep is more appealing than who is on TV at the time ... except of course Jennifer Aniston. She reminds me of one of the priests I know. I usually fall asleep at the first few words of his sermon and get awakened by a sharp elbow in my side. This priest is so sleep-inducing that the local hospital is considering using him as an anaesthetic.

These days I seem to be spending my time flicking through the TV channels to see if they are repeating any of the films I have not seen all the way through so I can view them from where I left off the last time.

Does anyone know how the film Titanic ends? Does the ship sink in the end or not?

    1. That joke at the end about your grandpa is brilliant. If you don't mind, I'd like to tell it to my readers here:

  2. ...I haven't been to a movie in years. The movies that I see advertised on TV these days seem so violent, this has to affect society in a negative way!!!

    1. Very good point, Tom. I noticed that over here too. Most of the films shown on TV are violent. I'm sure it affects peoples' attitudes.

      God bless you.

  3. Dearest Victor,
Well, both of us are not interested in movies, unless it is a special one and of historic value.
We did go to see the Titanic, with a friend while she was staying with us here in Georgia. That was excellent!
Hoping to find some time coming winter for watching some of our purchased movies. Historic ones of course.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Some historic films, if accurate, can be a good teaching aid. As long as they are not too long. Some films are longer than the period they are meant to represent.

      God bless, Mariette.

  4. We've not been to the movie theater in 4 years .... a good thing because Tom usually falls asleep before I've finished my popcorn. Providing the atmosphere doesn't interfere with streaming, we've been enjoying movies via Amazon Prime. Heck we're so behind the times, what was old is new again!

    1. Over here cinemas are not as they used to be. It is not a big screen upfront on which you see the film. It is just a huge monitor or TV - so it's like being at home but much bigger. I liked the old cinemas when the film reel would break and you had to wait till it was fixed.

Technology has taken away all the fun. It's the same with radio. In my days we used to play records. No more now ... these days you type Beatles - Yesterday and the record plays automatically. I would have liked you to choose the records for me on my show. These days you'd just have to type it on a keyboard.

      God bless, Mevely.

  5. I haven't been to a movie in years. They are too long, loud and violent. They're much too expensive these days too.

    1. Yes, you are right about that. Films in cinemas are too loud. I could not hear what the man in front was whispering in his girl-friend's mouth.

      God bless, Bill.

  6. I've never been much of a movie or television. I'd rather read the book. :).
I haven't been to the movies in about 12 years!!!

    1. I tried reading a book, Happyone, but it is too dark in the cinema.

  7. I don’t beIieve I have been to a movie theater in about 18 years. I am not much of a movie fan. The language is far too vulgar these days with four letter words and more. I don’t care to clutter my mind with the filth. I much prefer to read a book or write one.

    1. I agree about the vulgar language, Nells. It seems to be the modern way of talking sadly.

  8. It's very hard to find the time to watch a film all the way through. Much better to read a plot summary and be done!

    1. I get confused with the adverts half-way through the films. Watching "Gone with the wind" - I did not know Clark Gable liked beans.

      God bless, Mimi.

  9. Like so many readers who have commented here, I haven't been to a movie theater in ages, mostly due to Covid. Plus, it's so expensive!!! Danny and I usually wait until the movie is available on streaming services to enjoy one. We really want to watch Father Stu; have your heard about that one, Victor? As a practicing Catholic, I think you would truly enjoy it.
    Blessings!

    1. Father Stu is new to me. I'll check him out ... is it a TV series? Over here we've had Father Dowling (American TV series with that actor from Happy Days years ago). Also Father Brown (UK TV series based on the books of G K Chesterton) and Grantchester based on the books of Runcie (son of the ex archbishop of Canterbury).

      I'll look up Fr Stu.

      God bless, Martha.
