Scented Candle

I am convinced that global warming is caused by candles. Forget all this nonsense they tell you about a hole in the ozone layer, too much pollution, burning fossil fuels and all that. The real cause of global warming is candles.

Just imagine for a moment how many candles are lit throughout the world these days. Let's start with birthday candles on your cake. And every year there's one more. How many birthday cakes are adorned with candles every day burning away and creating heat?

Then there's candles in restaurants to create a romantic atmosphere. Or candles at home at the dinner table. Or candles in church and in open air concerts when the main singer bellows a favourite song. Or candles in the bathroom too. I tell you. Who needs candles in the bathroom, and why? There's a danger of singeing one's hair for a start! And it isn't just one candle ... but many placed around the bath. What's all that about? I'd be really afraid of burning my flotilla of sailing ships!

But I tell what are the worst offenders. Scented candles.

It is now an industry in its own right with people paying a fortune for these items. Over here you can buy one scented candles for over £100 ($137). And they come in various colours and odours. Lavender, camomile, cinnamon, Christmassy smells, rose, strawberries, orange blossoms and so on.

I mean ... what is the point? Why sit in a bath of warm soapy water already smelling of pine, or whatever other relaxing smell the soap bubbles contain, and then surround yourself with scented candles? Do all the candles in the bathroom have the same scent I wonder? Or do you have a mix of candles sending your olfactory senses into traumatic shock?

I tell you what scented candles I would like. Pizza smelling candles. That way, I would have a great appetite as soon as I leave the bath.

Or bacon scented candles. As well as making me hungry they would remind me what Miss Piggy would smell like if she caught fire. Aaaah ... roast pork. Or even roast chicken or beef scented candles.

Come on you candle manufacturers. Get a grip and wake up. That's what the world needs now. Not love sweet love, but garlic scented candles. Or fried onions ones.

There are just so many smells that can be capitalised on if only people had the right imagination. Coffee scented candles. KFC scented ones. Wet dog smell scented candles. The possibilities are endless.

Forget global warming. Light a candle and brighten the world.

You do not have to blow someone else's candle for your light to shine.

What is your favourite scent?

  2. I just like candles, no scent. I am waiting for my 100th birthday when Sherry put 100 on there, Imma going to like that smell! (if we don't burn the house down)
But your thought would have been my mama's thought: You do not have to blow someone else's candle for your light to shine....
She patiently taught me the little kids song: This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. I remember enjoying the motions to that song.
The best to you my friend,
Sherry & jack getting ready to enjoy spring.

    1. Wishing you a wonderful 100th Birthday Jack. Over here in the UK you would get a card from the Queen. She sends a birthday card to every citizen who has a 100th Birthday.

Yes, I remember the song about the little light of mine.

May God bless you and Sherry always my friends.

  3. Dearest Victor,
In certain shops, when entering, they have such ugly scents from candles or whatever artificially, that it makes me want to walk around in a wide circle to avoid inhaling it.
My sense of smell is very strong and that only enhances the ugly artificial scents.
Having felines, there is no candle burning at our home, if so electric dinner candles...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Yes I agree, Mariette. Some shops do have very strong scents emanating from them - especially soap shops and bubble baths shops.

I too have a strong sense of smell and can smell round corners. I can tell as soon as I enter the back garden what is cooking in the kitchen; even when the kitchen window is open and the ventilator fan on the oven is on. I can also smell in the dark and in elevators. I think a smell in an elevator is wrong on so many levels.

      God bless, Mariette.

  4. I'll take the bacon-scented candle, Victor. Bacon is one of my all time favorite foods!
    Blessings!

    1. I should go in business and make food scented candles, Martha. You can help sell them in the US.

      God bless.

  5. They actually sell one that smells like human backfire, I guess to discourage guests. What if global warming is due to the sun getting a little stronger? I'm sure politicians would find a cure.

    1. Human backfire? Are you sure JoeH?

There are so many theories about global warming, I doubt I'll worry about too many of them. They say the seas will rise and flood many areas. If that happens, more people will live by the seaside!

      God bless.

  7. I do love candles. They are a part of my morning meditation and prayer time. The scent I enjoy right now is "rose" and the pink candles match my Easter and Spring decor. I light the candles, have a cup of coffee, sit on my couch and have about 30 minutes with the Lord each morning. Different scents for different occassions. Love you post!!! This little light of mine....you bet I'm gonna let it shine!!

    1. Some of the costs of scented candles are prohibitive. It has become an industry in itself. But I agree that they can help meditation.

      God bless you, Wanda.

  8. I think you may be onto something, Victor! Pizza for me, please! Since our veterinarian suggested Caraleigh's congestive heart failure may have been caused by the countless number of scented candles we'd burn, I've never lit another.

I like what another blogger "Ma" does. No matter the number of years, the cake is topped with only 3 candles -- representing the Past, the Present and the Future.

    1. Now that's a new one on me. I did not know that scented candles can be harmful to dogs. Our vet has notices saying chocolates and onions (cooked and raw in foods) are harmful to dogs. Also raisins, grapes and strawberries apparently. Dogs have a very low resistance to "poisons". Things like chocolates, raisins, stawberries and onions contain certain chemicals that we can tolerate but not dogs. Also do not give tinned dog foods to cats because it lacks taurine which the cat needs.

Sorry about the vet lesson, Mevely. I've learnt something from you today about scented candles.

I like your idea about three candles on a birthday cake.

      Thanx and God bless, Mevely.

  9. I'm not such a big fan of candles though I do like the bayberry scent ones around the holidays.
I think the 3 candles on a birthday cake is a great idea!

    1. It is a good idea to have just three candles. Helps global warming too.

  10. Scented candles are not everyone's favourite.

There is a shop nearby that sells the most amazing candles.
All sizes, shapes and amazing scents. I do like to visit when the shop is open, which due to our current Covid restrictions it isn't!

It's fun blowing out the candles on a birthday cake.
I like the idea of three candles described in an earlier comment.

    All the best Jan
