Thankfulness

Let's look in the mirror. What do you see? Do you see a happy face always smiling, laughing and joking? Or is it a miserable face often complaining, worried or concerned about what might happen?

When people meet you, are they happy to do so because you'll cheer them up; or do they dread being with you and sharing your problems and difficulties?

If we are honest, we all have a tendency to complain. Some more than others. Some justified some not always really so.

We seem to complain about so many things. The weather, that's a favourite in the UK. The cost of living, the Government, the environment and the planet, some family members, our health or so many other things.

When Moses got the Jews out of slavery in Egypt they did nothing but complain. Complain. Complain. Complain. They spent forty years going round in circles in the desert and wilderness of their souls rather than be thankful to God for having saved them from their enslavement.

Perhaps we are like that sometimes. We are enslaved in our own mindset of negativity and pointless anxiety rather than be thankful for what we have already received and hopeful of more to come.

How do you think God feels about that? Our doubts, our worries, our concerns and anxieties? Do they betray a certain lack of trust in Him despite what He has done for us?

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

  2. It is a tough job to be UP when you are beset by many things. BUT I have known some with life threatening diseases who are bubbly. I try, but at times I find myself in the doldrums. About 'em Israelites, I know I would have been on top of the world, had I been rescued from slavery, wouldn't I?
    The ungrateful pups.....

Love from over here, this is a much needed message in today's world, HE has done so much for us and we still EXPECT more....

    1. I understand Jack. I knew someone with many medical problems and often in pain. Whenever I spoke to him he would say that there are so many people worse off than himself. He would then add, "It'll soon be Christmas". Meaning there are good times ahead.

I am praying that you and Sherry are well. God bless you and your family.

    1. You are so right, Bill. Humanity today has become ungrateful, greedy and demanding. Selfish too.

God bless you and yours, my friend.

  5. Great point, Victor. I'd like to think people are always happy to see me. Truth is, my disposition's somewhere in the middle, usually dependent on outside circumstances. How very like a chameleon I am. Of late, my prayer has been to grant me a better sense of compassion.
Some days are better than others.

    1. I'm always happy to see you here, Mevely. We all have our ups and downs in life. I remember a period when it happened to me every day. I worked as an elevator attendant at the time.

Yes, as a chameleon, we often hide our true feelings. But God knows. He loves and forgives.

God bless you and your family, Mevely.

  6. Even in the most difficult of times, I try my best to live life with a gratitude attitude, Victor. Because of that, I do believe I'm healthier, happier and an encouragement to others whom I meet.
    Blessings, my friend!

  7. I think I'm one of the happy ones but still one can't be happy all the time.
One thing for sure though, a thankful person is a happy person.

  9. Complaining is the default reaction we all have. It takes a lot of prayer and a lot of the Holy Spirit's guiding for me to quit complaining and find the thankful things. It does get easier with practice, but i am still too quick to think the sour thoughts.

  10. Hi Vfictor, I thank God for all He has done for me, and my husband, most of all sending His precious Son Jesus to grant us eternal life. We have always been supplied with all we need, and have been able to travel to many places around the world. I love talking to people that I meet and thank the Lord for many blessings. As my sister says 'Always look on the bright side'. God bless.
