An Honesty Challenge

I was watching a preacher on TV just now. He encouraged his audience to read and memorise the Bible; or quotes from it.

He said, quite rightly, when we are in a difficult situation, we do not always have the time to go to the Bible for God's guidance and help. We need to remember certain promises made by God and Jesus in the Bible and use them as prayers when needed.

So here's a challenge, and please let's be honest in this, without checking the Bible can you quote as many bits as you can in the comments box below.

Do not read other peoples' comments until you have published your quotes first. Then we can check how many of us have chosen the same quotations.

I have written mine on a piece of paper to compare with your entries.

God bless.

  1. I'm catholic but I think we should go 500 years back when the Bible was not available but only the interpretation of it. That's the reason why I prefer not to read the Bible but instead read Pope Francis. Thank you! https://shorturl.at/CNrhS

    1. You could learn the languages it was first written in and then read those.

    2. No. Indeed my problem is with the Bible. There are a lot of texts that only strange interpretations could make them nice. Pope Francis is the "Bible" of our times!

    1. You obviously don't think so, Tom. Let's ask the question differently - are there any honest Christian bloggers? What do you think?

      God bless.

  5. All I can think of -- off the top of my head -- are the Ten Commandments. Oh, and the 23rd Psalm.

    1. 23rd Psalm is on my list, Mevely. We think alike.

  6. I probably know a psalm or two, but I was raised Catholic -- we weren't supposed to read the Bible. In fact, way back when, people were burned at the stake for reading it.

    Love and kindness always.

    1. I don't understand, CM. Why were you not supposed to read the Bible? I am Catholic and I've never been discouraged or forbidden to read it. It is central to Catholic beliefs.

      God bless.

    2. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He lets me to lie down besides the green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
      He restores my soul.
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
      for His namesake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.
      For You are with me.
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil.
      My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life.
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
      forever.

I do know it, but it was so long I copied it. IT goes in my brain everywhere with me. Morning, noon, and night.

    3. Thanx Sandie. This is my daily prayer every evening. Here's a recording I made on my You Tube channel years ago.

  7. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee.
Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.
The Lord has not given the spirit of fear but of power and of love and a sound mind.
... Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
    The Lord is my shepherd.
He restores my soul; He leads me beside still waters.

Lead me in paths of righteousness.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

and the one I had put on my late husband's grave headstone: Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.

And many more. I was blessed to be raised in a church girl's class that memorized a lot of scripture.

    1. How wonderful is your comment to me Barbara. So many sayings are just like the ones on my list here on paper:

      The 23rd Psalm
Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Last verse in Matthew's Gospel) I find this often very comforting.
Thy will be done. I repeat this when I'm in great difficulties.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. I pray this often when I have a decision to make and I am not sure what to do.

Thank you so much, Barbara. God bless you my friend.

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

  11. Philippians 4:13 is my life verse. :)
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave is only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have ever lasting life.
II Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed rightly dividing the word of Truth.

    The Romans Road
    Romans 3:23
For ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
    Romans 6:23
    For the wages of sin is death;
BUT the gift of God is eternal life
    through Jesus Christ our Lord.
    Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us,
in that, while we were yet sinners,
    Christ died for us.
    Romans 10: 9 and 10
That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus Christ
and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised Him from the dead,
    thou shalt be saved.
    Romans 10:13
For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I could quote more but the Romans Road is my favorite because it tells the Gospel and how to get to Heaven. :)

  12. John 16:33 I have told you these things so you will have peace. In this world you will have trouble, but cheer up! I have overcome the world.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you.

Ps. 56 In God I will praise His word, in God have I put my trust, I will not fear what man can do to me.

1 Cor. 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man, and God is faithful Who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able and will provide the way of escape that you may be able to bear it.

There are a few more, but these came to mind first.

    1. We think so much alike, Mimi. There are three quotations on your list which are on mine too. John 3:16, John 16:33 and 1 Cor. 10:13.

I also like "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" Mark 9:24 which I pray often. And also, " Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." Colossians 3:2.

      God bless you and yours.
