We here remember sending our families off to foreign soil. I knew many who went. Every family had someone 'Off to War.' So many never returned. WE also know that on your side of the world there are more searching memories, because YOUR families were THERE. God Bless those who gave all. Sherry and jack, remembering.... VERY appropriate entry my friend.
This film never fails to move me. My son was recently telling me how, when he was stationed in Germany, the church bells would ring on November 11 at 11:11am. Do they observe the same tradition in the UK?
Yes ... not the church bells as such, but the whole country today at 11am observed 2 minutes' silence. TV showed photos of different parts of the country at their monuments (Cenotaph) people observing the silence. Tonight there's a memorial service at the Albert Hall London. Tomorrow there's a service at the Cenotaph London attended by Royalty and the military as well as veterans and politicians of all parties. Every town will hold a similar service tomorrow at 11.00am at their local monuments. We have two in our town and both hold a service.
...we call today Veterans Day, but I like Remembrance Day better.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteMay we never forget the sacrifices so many have made for our freedom...and may we never let go of those freedoms we hold so dear. Amen.
