In the beginning ...

I don't know how or why; but I know exactly when and where it happened. It was at the age of eight or thereabouts, I was on the bus on my way to school, I can even remember exactly which street we were in, when I suddenly realised, I knew for certain, that God exists. It was as if everything made sense in my mind. I understood. Everything my parents and my teachers had taught me made sense. It had to be right. There was no other way. There must be an almighty living spiritual power we know and call God. He is a spirit and He created us and everything.

As I grew up that certainty of belief remained in my being. Even though at times I must have had my doubts, my confusions and my endless questions. Somehow, I remained anchored in that certainty in the existence of God. Even when I wandered away from the faith; I did not cease to believe in Him; I just insolently turned my back on Him. Somehow ... I came back.

This is why, looking back, I am confused at how some people are certain that God does not exist. They are always so sure in that belief. Have you ever met an atheist who is doubtful? "God does not exist ... but then again?" They are always so certain, so sure without doubt, that God does not exist. On what do they place that certainty of belief?

Believers often doubt. This is no bad thing because it teaches us to question our beliefs and often reinforces it.

It seems it takes more faith to believe that God does not exist than to believe that He does.

Those who do not believe in God teach us, with some conviction, that we all just happened to be. I've read many versions of events. We all originated from some slime from some pool of water somewhere. We then evolved over time into many shapes and forms and eventually from apes, or ape looking mammals. Others believe that we were brought to this planet by some space aliens from other planets or solar systems or whatever. Or perhaps that life somehow began to exist when some stars or planets accidentaly on purpose collided with each other.

It has never been explained to me the how and the why this happened.

How could a pool of water contain something that somehow became living and crawled out to become eventually a living human? And if this is so, why has it stopped happening? Are there other pools still somewhere creating new forms of life that will evolve in time?

Why did space aliens bring us to this planet? From where? And why have they stopped doing so; and not make themselves known to us?

How could planets big banging into each other create life? Could it happen again?

As I said, it was a sudden certainty that came over me all those years ago that God does actually exist. Do non-believers have an equal certainty, whether sudden or gradual, that sustains their beliefs? Often, they argue with great conviction; but on what do they base that conviction and belief?

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1

  1. ...what makes life interesting is that each of us have the ability to discover the meaning of life on our own terms.

  2. Hi Victor, yes we all have our individual experiences regarding God and Jesus. The thing is that once we come to know Jesus and have access to the Holy Spirit then we are taught by that Spirit. God can reach all through various ways, and it is good that you have some Christian truths within your books.

  3. The older I get, the more certain I am of God's existence. I just know . . .
    Blessings, Victor!

  4. I'm grateful for your candor, Victor. I suppose I've always believed in an almighty God; (but) it wasn't until I hit rock bottom that I realized how much I needed Him. To try and analyze our human origins only makes my teeth ache. I don't remember being asked to understand, only to believe.

    1. Thank you, Mevely. It sometimes needs a shock to the system to realise that God exists and we need Him. This happened to me many times, starting from childhood.

He does not ask us to understand Him, just to believe and trust Him.

      God bless you always.

  5. Victor, I meant to tell you that I did try to re-sign up for your blog, but once again, I had to track you down. I noticed that your blog is still using Feedburner, which isn't active anymore. I think that's why your blog isn't showing up in my email. Do you have a way I could sign up through Blogger???
    Blessings!

    1. Martha, I wish I understood what you are saying. Who is Feedburner and who put it on my Blog? I'll ask my techie to see what can be sorted out. Thanx for the info; I'll get him to read it.

      God bless you.

    2. Martha,

My techie has put "Subscribe to Time For Reflections" at the top right hand column. Does this work on your computer? Thanx. God bless.

  6. Sorry, i don't have enough faith to be an atheist.

Anything which exists without being created is, by definition, G-d. Atheists seem to believe the universe itself, unthinking, uncaring, with its scientific laws, has always existed. That's not a good enough explanation for me, sorry.

  7. Dearest Victor,
During all our travels by car over 11 days over almost 5,000 or 8,000 kilometers, we have been in AWE about our planet!
NO WAY that this is caused by a big bang—what actually caused that bang?! Where did all the matter come or originate from? Those atheïst are only side–tracking the TRUTH.
They never can explain how and why; so that's their loss in many ways.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. You are right, Mariette. I cannot understand where such logic of big bang originates.

      God bless you.
